A Field Service Technician services and repairs equipment and machines in a variety of customer locations such as residential, commercial, or industrial settings. Workers in this field can specialize in the diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of industrial, hardware, construction or electronic equipment just to name a few. These roles may work in a variety of remote locations and can travel up to multiple locations in a day.
This is semi-skilled, manual work involving the performance of a variety of maintenance and installation tasks on water mains, hydrants and meters, water and wastewater treatment equipment and pump stations, and electrical and mechanical building systems. This position will focus on construction related projects which requires experience in heavy equipment operations. Complex or unusual work is performed under the immediate supervision of the Water Construction Foreman, or other superior, while routine tasks may be performed under general supervision and inspected upon completion. Does related work, as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Install and repair water distribution system, including water mains, laterals, hydrants, valves, and meters. Repair and maintain pumps, motors, air compressors, controls, grit collectors, and a variety of other water and wastewater equipment. May repair and maintain mechanical equipment in various municipal buildings. May repair and maintain plumbing, heating, carpentry, and masonry work in various municipal buildings. Install new or replace water and wastewater mechanical and electrical equipment. May repair and maintain wiring systems in municipal facilities. Operate various equipment including Vactor-Truck, excavators, backhoes, trucks, and loaders in the course of installation, repair, and maintenance work. Performs routine maintenance work on related construction and excavation equipment; Assists Highway Department, and other Town Departments, in heavy-equipment operations. Good knowledge of practices, terminology, and tools used in the maintenance of water mains, laterals, valves, and hydrants; working knowledge of operation and maintenance of pumps, electrical motors and controls, and other equipment used in water and wastewater pumping and treatment; working knowledge of installation and repair of water and wastewater flow meters; plumbing, heating, and masonry work; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the job. a high degree of skill in the operation of all types of motor vehicles and heavy equipment; ability to understand and follow moderately difficult oral and written directions, good mechanical aptitude; industry; dependability, sobriety. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, climb, bend over, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to walk, talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OR:
(A) Three year of experience in any of the standard mechanical or construction trades with equipment operations. (B) Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
