Job Summary This position is responsible for assisting the Groundskeeper and Director of Preservation and Maintenance in maintaining the historic grounds and buildings of the House of the Seven Gables' and helping with all general needs in maintaining the physical appearance and upkeep of the campus grounds. This position reports to the Director of Preservation and Maintenance and is a full-time, 40 hr/week position. Duties Pruning bushes and trees; Raking and properly disposing of leavespreading mulch Maintaining walkways and paths Assistance in landscaping projects under the supervision of the Groundskeeper Interior and Exterior Painting Changing HVAC filters, replacing broken lightbulbs Occasional light carpentry work under the supervision of the Preservation Carpenter Opening site two days a week, Must be available to open on Sundays Cleaning, waste removal Event setups Other duties as assigned Experience High school diploma or equivalent Landscaping and painting and general carpentry skills are preferred but not required Knowledge of workplace safety Willingness to learn traditional horticultural care and historic carpentry methods to adhere to Gable's historic preservation requirements
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to lift heavy objects up to 50lbs
  • Physical stamina and ability to climb ladders, lift and carry objects
  • Utilizes power and hand tools such as, lawn mowers, leaf blowers, power saws, drills, shovels, picks, etc.
  • Works inside and outside including during inclement weather, such as heat, rain, cold and snow.
  • Exposure to chemicals included in commercial cleaning products and paints, within safe OSHA limits This position does not require any supervisory responsibilities.
