Automotive Service Manager Honda of Gladstone | Gladstone, Oregon Ready to Take Off? Honda of Gladstone is seeking an experienced Automotive Service Manager to lead, develop, and motivate our service team while driving customer satisfaction, technician productivity, service retention, and departmental profitability. This is an exceptional opportunity to lead a high-potential operation featuring a state-of-the-art facility, more than 30 service lifts, an on-site car wash, and a super-clean, professional shop built to support significant service volume. The successful candidate will be a visible, hands-on leader who establishes clear expectations, holds the team accountable, develops employees, and creates a productive, customer-focused service culture. Automotive Service Manager Responsibilities Lead the daily operations of the service department, including service advisors, technicians, dispatch, and support personnel. Recruit, train, coach, and retain a high-performing fixed-operations team. Establish individual and departmental performance goals and monitor progress throughout the month. Conduct daily meetings, one-on-one coaching sessions, and ongoing process and customer-service training. Manage shop loading, repair-order flow, technician dispatch, and available capacity across more than 30 service lifts. Monitor technician productivity, proficiency, efficiency, attendance, and overall performance. Coach service advisors on vehicle inspections, maintenance recommendations, repair presentations, customer communication, and ethical selling practices. Increase customer-pay repair orders, labor sales, gross profit, hours per repair order, effective labor rate, and customer retention. Ensure customers receive timely and accurate updates throughout the repair process. Monitor open repair orders, declined services, appointment volume, work in progress, and follow-up activity. Maintain strong customer satisfaction and manufacturer performance standards. Resolve escalated customer concerns professionally, promptly, and with a focus on protecting long-term relationships. Ensure repair orders, warranty claims, documentation, and internal controls comply with dealership and manufacturer requirements. Partner with the parts department to improve fill rates, workflow, inventory availability, and service efficiency. Collaborate with sales, accounting, marketing, and dealership leadership to support overall store performance. Monitor departmental expenses, payroll, policy adjustments, discounts, and monthly financial performance. Maintain a safe, organized, and exceptionally clean service environment. Develop strategies to increase service volume, market share, customer loyalty, and departmental profitability. Required Qualifications At least five years of automotive dealership service experience. Previous dealership leadership experience as a Service Manager, Assistant Service Manager, Fixed Operations Director, or senior Service Advisor with demonstrated leadership responsibilities. Proven success improving labor sales, gross profit, technician productivity, customer retention, and customer satisfaction. Strong understanding of dealership service operations, shop workflow, warranty processes, and manufacturer requirements. Experience coaching service advisors and technicians to improve individual and departmental performance. Ability to interpret service department financial statements and use performance data to make sound operating decisions. Strong knowledge of service performance metrics, including effective labor rate, hours per repair order, labor gross, technician productivity, efficiency, and CSI. Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume dealership environment. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and other hours required by dealership operations. Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record. Preferred Qualifications Honda or other import-franchise dealership experience. Experience with CDK or a comparable dealership management system. Familiarity with digital inspections, service scheduling, customer communication, and repair-order management platforms. Experience managing both customer-pay and warranty repair operations.
