Job Description

A growing AS9100D and
ISO 9001
precision CNC machining company in Paterson, New Jersey, is seeking a skilled CNC Lathe Programmer / Setup Machinist for a full-time, first-shift position. This is a hands-on programming and setup position—not a production-operator or button-pusher role. The right person must be capable of taking a job from print through programming, complete machine setup, prove-out, first-piece inspection, and production. What You Will Do Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances, and GD&T. Create and modify CNC lathe programs using Mastercam or comparable CAM software. Program directly at the machine when appropriate using G-code and M-code. Independently set up CNC lathes, including jaws, workholding, tooling, offsets, and cutting conditions. Safely prove out new programs and produce acceptable first pieces. Inspect your own work using micrometers, calipers, indicators, bore gauges, height gauges, and other precision measuring equipment. Troubleshoot programming, tooling, setup, dimensional, and surface-finish problems. Adjust feeds, speeds, tooling, and processes to improve cycle time, consistency, and tool life. Create clear setup documentation so repeat jobs can be run efficiently. Work with management and other machinists to meet quality and delivery requirements. Maintain an organized, safe, and professional work area. Required Qualifications Proven ability to independently program, set up, prove out, and run CNC lathes. Strong Mastercam or comparable CNC lathe CAM-programming experience. Strong knowledge of tooling, workholding, feeds, speeds, and machining practices. Ability to read complex prints, understand GD&T, and hold close tolerances. Ability to perform first-piece and in-process inspection. Ability to diagnose problems and complete jobs without constant supervision. Approximately five or more years of relevant CNC lathe programming and setup experience is preferred, but demonstrated ability is more important than years or title. Experience in aerospace, defense, medical, or other precision-machining environments is beneficial but not required.
