A CNC Programmer programs computer-controlled equipment used to cut wood, plastic, or metal according to precise measurements, or equipment used for different manufacturing processes.
precision CNC machining company in Paterson, New Jersey, is seeking a skilled CNC Mill Programmer / Setup Machinist for a full-time, first-shift position. This is a hands-on programming and complete setup position—not a production-operator or button-pusher role. The right person must be capable of taking a job from print through Mastercam programming, complete machine setup, prove-out, first-piece inspection, and production. What You Will Do Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances, and GD&T. Create and modify CNC milling programs using Mastercam. Program and edit G-code and M-code directly at the machine when necessary. Independently set up CNC mills, including vises, fixtures, workholding, cutting tools, tool holders, work offsets, and tool offsets. Determine appropriate tooling, feeds, speeds, depth of cut, and machining strategy. Indicate fixtures and workpieces and establish accurate work coordinates. Safely prove out new programs and produce acceptable first pieces. Inspect your own work using micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges, bore gauges, and other precision measuring equipment. Troubleshoot programming, tooling, setup, dimensional, chatter, and surface-finish problems. Make offsets and process adjustments to maintain dimensions throughout production. Improve cycle times, tool life, process reliability, and overall efficiency. Create clear setup sheets and documentation so repeat jobs can be run consistently. Work with management and other machinists to meet demanding quality and delivery requirements. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area. Required Qualifications Proven ability to independently program, set up, prove out, and run CNC mills. Strong Mastercam Mill programming experience. Strong knowledge of milling tools, tool holders, workholding, feeds, speeds, and machining practices. Ability to read complex prints, understand GD&T, and hold close tolerances. Ability to perform first-piece and in-process inspection. Ability to diagnose machining problems and complete jobs without constant supervision. Approximately five or more years of relevant CNC mill programming and setup experience is preferred, but demonstrated ability is more important than years or job title. Experience with three-axis CNC milling is required. Four-axis, five-axis, probing, or automated machining experience is a plus but not required. Experience in aerospace, defense, medical, or other precision-machining environments is beneficial but not required.
