Job Title Industrial Paint Technician - Powder Coating & Steel Shot Blasting Job Summary The Industrial Paint Technician is responsible for preparing, blasting, coating, curing, and inspecting manufactured components using steel shot blasting, powder coating, and industrial liquid paint processes. This position ensures all surface preparation and coating operations meet quality, durability, safety, and customer specifications in a high-performance manufacturing environment. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Steel Shot Blasting & Surface Preparation Operate steel shot blasting equipment (cabinet, table, wheel blast, or conveyor systems) to remove scale, rust, oil, and surface contaminants Select appropriate steel shot or grit size based on material type, surface profile, and coating requirements Monitor blast pressure, flow rates, cycle times, and media condition to ensure consistent surface profile Load and unload parts using carts, conveyors, hoists, or cranes Inspect parts before and after blasting to verify cleanliness and surface profile requirements are met Perform routine media recovery, screening, and blast cabinet cleaning Identify worn liners, blades, seals, or abnormal machine conditions and report to maintenance Powder Coating Operations Apply powder coating using electrostatic spray equipment according to work instructions Select proper powder materials (type, color, texture) per job traveler or customer specification Adjust gun voltage, air pressure, and powder flow for optimal coverage and film thickness Hang, unhang, and track parts through cure ovens Monitor and verify oven temperature and dwell time to ensure proper cure Liquid Painting (If Required) Prepare and apply industrial liquid coatings using spray guns or pressure-feed systems Mix, strain, and adjust coatings for viscosity and application requirements Clean and maintain liquid paint equipment and spray booths Quality Control Inspect finished parts for surface defects, adhesion, coverage, thickness, and appearance Use film thickness gauges, visual standards, and basic inspection tools Perform rework or touch-up when required Document quality checks and production data Equipment & Housekeeping Perform daily inspections and basic preventive maintenance on blast equipment, spray booths, reclaim systems, and ovens Maintain clean and organized work areas following 5S or lean manufacturing standards Safety & Compliance Follow all safety procedures for abrasive blasting, coatings, PPE, ventilation, and chemical handling Wear required PPE including blast hood, respirator, gloves, hearing protection, and protective clothing Comply with environmental, OSHA, and SDS requirements Properly handle and dispose of waste materials Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent 1-3 years of experience in steel shot blasting, powder coating, or industrial painting Understanding of surface preparation importance for coating adhesion Ability to read work instructions, job travelers, and specifications Mechanical aptitude and strong attention to detail Preferred Qualifications Experience with automated or conveyorized blast and powder coat systems Knowledge of surface profile requirements for powder coating Forklift, overhead crane, or hoist operation experience Experience in ISO, AS9100, or similar quality systems Skills & Competencies Strong safety and quality focus Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment Effective communication and teamwork skills Time management and production awareness Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods Lift up to 75 lbs with assistance Work in dusty, noisy, and high-temperature environments Use of respirators, blast hoods, and protective equipment Work Environment Industrial manufacturing facility Exposure to steel shot media, coatings, chemicals, and curing ovens Shift work and overtime may be required based on production demand
Pay:
$20.00 - $28.00 per hour
