$27-$34 per hour, based on experience Help Bring the Kalahari Experience to Life Kalahari Manufacturing, the theming division of Kalahari Resorts & Conventions, is seeking an experienced Temporary Scenic Painter for an immediate project-based opportunity at the Kalahari Theme Shop in Wisconsin Dells. Our artists create the immersive environments, themed elements, signage, props, and decorative finishes found throughout Kalahari's resorts and attractions. The Theme Shop is a 20,000-square-foot creative production facility featuring a full paint shop, carpentry and metal shops, foam cutting and carving equipment, 3-D modeling workstations, welding machinery, vinyl fabrication equipment, and a UL-certified sign shop. The Scenic Painter will use artistic painting techniques to transform fabricated pieces and themed environments into finished visual experiences. This position is ideal for an artist who can work from concepts and reference materials, accurately match colors and textures, and produce consistent, high-quality work within project deadlines. Key Responsibilities Apply scenic paint treatments to props, themed elements, signage, dimensional pieces, and architectural surfaces. Create realistic and stylized finishes, including aging, distressing, wood grain, stone, metal, patina, and other faux textures. Interpret renderings, color references, sketches, and design concepts. Mix and match colors, stains, glazes, and coatings to achieve specified finishes. Use brushes, rollers, sponges, sprayers, and other scenic-painting tools and techniques. Prepare surfaces through cleaning, sanding, priming, patching, and light bodywork. Apply polyurethane and other coatings using HVLP spray equipment when required. Paint intricate details as well as large-scale surfaces, sometimes using ladders or work platforms. Inspect completed work for color accuracy, consistency, coverage, and finish quality. Operate hand and power tools as needed. Collaborate with sculptors, fabricators, carpenters, designers, and other Theme Shop artists. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Complete assignments according to production schedules and project deadlines. What We're Looking For Proven experience as a scenic painter, production artist, theatrical painter, muralist, or similar creative professional. A portfolio demonstrating scenic finishes, faux treatments, detailed painting, or comparable work is strongly preferred. Knowledge of paint products, color mixing, surface preparation, and finishing techniques. Experience with HVLP wet-coat systems or industrial production coatings is preferred. Ability to interpret visual concepts and translate them onto two- and three-dimensional surfaces. Strong attention to artistic detail and quality. Ability to stand for extended periods, lift materials, climb ladders, and perform repetitive physical work. Ability to work collaboratively and complete projects on schedule. This is a temporary, project-based position beginning immediately and expected to conclude in mid-to-late November 2026. Continued employment beyond the project period is not guaranteed.
Pay range:
