Job Description

Your machine. Your programs. Your tool running on our press.
About the name:
this job is posted under Lorob Bees LLC. That is our original company
  • we build and distribute equipment for beekeepers, and we still run that business today.
Hexa Plastics is the injection molding and toolmaking operation we grew out of it, and Hexa is the shop you would be working in. Hexa Plastics is a precision injection molding shop in Northeast Baltimore. We are small on purpose and we do the whole job under one roof: part design and DFM, mold design, cut the steel, wire and sinker EDM, bench and fit, then sample and run production on our own press. We got here the long way. We started in 2019 building products for the manufacturing trade, then moved into treatment devices for honeybee colonies. We needed precision parts nobody wanted to make in our quantities, so we bought a mill and learned to make them. Then we needed molds, so we learned to build those too. Now we run outside work for other companies and manufacture our own product brands
  • CullWorks commercial crabbing gear is one of them.
Every capability in this shop exists because we needed it and went and got it. That is the culture you would be walking into. This is not a job where you are handed a setup sheet and a stack of parts. You get a dedicated CNC machine and you program it yourself in Fusion 360. You decide how the job gets cut. Then you walk your tool over to the press and watch it make parts. Almost nobody in this trade gets that loop, and nobody gets it in a week.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Program and machine mold components in Fusion 360 on your own CNC
  • cores, cavities, inserts, slides, ejector systems
  • Run our Haas VM2 and Haas CM1 (30,000 rpm spindle
  • the small cutters and fine detail work molds actually need)
  • Wire EDM on the Fanuc Robocut Alpha 1
B:
ejector and return pin holes, obround and profile work, developing settings for new materials
  • Sinker EDM on the Sodick (arriving on the floor)
  • burning the detail we cannot mill
  • Bench work: fitting, stoning, polishing, spotting shutoffs until the tool actually seals
  • Mold assembly, first-article sampling on the BOY 80E, and the tuning loop
  • pull it, fix it, run it again
  • Mold maintenance and repair on tools already in production
  • Own the quality of what leaves your machine. We do not have a separate inspection department. You check your own work, you sign off on it, and you speak up when something is off. That is real responsibility and we treat it that way.
  • Work directly with the owner and the designer on making parts manufacturable
  • that is a two-minute conversation here, not a change order
REQUIREMENTS
Non-negotiable:
you know injection mold machining, or you have done genuine tight-tolerance work. We hold .0002 inch where the print calls for it, and we hold it on parts that are one-offs. If your experience is running the same part five hundred times, this is a different job than you are used to
  • every core, cavity, and insert here is unique, and you are setting up fresh every time.
Also required:
  • 2-5 years of hands-on CNC machining, including your own setups
  • Read a print and hold tenths when the print says tenths
  • Confident with indicators, mics, gage pins, height gage; solid GD&T basics
  • Comfortable at the bench, not just at the control
  • Self-directed. You will be alone with your machine most of the day. We need someone who plans their own work, does not wait to be told, and pushes our quality standard up as they go
  • Trustworthy.
In a shop this size, your word on a part is the inspection
Preferred:
  • Tool and die certification
  • Fusion 360 (strong CAM in Mastercam, Esprit, or NX transfers fine
  • we will get you up to speed)
  • Wire or sinker EDM experience Setup technicians: please apply.
If you are a setup tech who does one-off precision work and holds real tolerances, you have the hard part. Mold building we can teach. We would rather have someone with the right hands and the right habits than someone with mold experience and neither.
WHAT YOU GET HERE THAT A BIG SHOP WILL NOT GIVE YOU
  • A machine that is yours. Not shared, not queued behind two other guys.
  • You program it. No separate programming department handing you code you cannot change.
  • You see the loop close. Cut steel Monday, watch your tool run Friday.
  • Real training on EDM and mold building on our clock, on processes we are actively developing.
  • Direct line to the owner. No shift supervisor, no plant manager, no seven approvals to buy a cutter.
  • A shop that is still adding capability. The person who gets good here ends up running the tool room, not waiting for someone to retire. DETAILS
  • Pay:
    $28
  • 36 per hour, depending on experience
  • Schedule:
Full time, Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm. Overtime is frequently available and paid
  • how much depends on customer budgets and delivery dates
  • Time off: Two weeks paid sick time and two weeks paid vacation
  • Health insurance: Not in place yet. We are a small shop and it is the next thing we want to add as we grow
  • we would rather tell you that straight than have you find out in week two
  • Location:
On site at 6400 Frankford Ave, Baltimore, MD 21206 Please read this before applying: we plan to move the shop to the Middle River area within the next few years. If you are coming from the northeast side
  • Parkville, Perry Hall, White Marsh, Essex, Middle River, Dundalk, Bel Air
  • both locations work well for you.
If you would be driving up from Annapolis or points south, the move would add real time to your commute, and we would rather you know that now than three years in.
