Job Title:
General Production Worker Job Description This role supports a paper shredding and recycling operation that processes damaged goods, excess inventory, and improperly produced paper materials so they can be returned to paper mills for reuse. General production workers help keep shredding, baling, cutting, and dock cleaning activities running smoothly by handling materials, maintaining cleanliness, and safely operating or learning to operate equipment such as forklifts and basic cutting machinery. Responsibilities Support continuous operation of shredding and baling equipment by keeping paper products moving along the conveyor line. Use brooms and shovels to push loose paper products back onto the conveyor so they can be shredded and processed. Assist with operating or learning to operate shredding and baling equipment under supervision. Train to operate sit-down forklifts safely, including using different attachments to move paper rolls, bales, and other materials. Assist with cutting large paper rolls into smaller sizes by properly positioning rolls and activating a simple two-button cutting control system. Follow instructions to set up and position paper rolls correctly before cutting operations. Maintain a clean and organized work area around shredders, balers, cutting equipment, and docks. Perform shipping dock cleaning, including sweeping, shoveling, and picking up paper products and debris. Collect and place paper products into appropriate containers or areas so they are ready for next-day shredding operations. Load and unload materials using a sit-down forklift, including moving products in and out of shipping and receiving areas. Handle general material movement throughout the warehouse, including order picking and staging materials for processing. Follow safety procedures and guidelines at all times, especially when working around machinery and forklifts. Work both on and off the forklift as needed, assisting with manual tasks when not operating equipment. Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate material flow and ensure production targets are met. Adhere to all recycling facility rules and maintain a safe, tidy, and efficient work environment. Essential Skills 2+ years of sit-down forklift experience, including loading and unloading materials. Ability to operate a forklift with different attachments to handle various paper products and materials. Experience in a recycling or similar industrial environment. Strong safety orientation and commitment to following safety procedures. Ability to perform general labor tasks such as sweeping, shoveling, and manual material handling. Willingness to work both on and off a forklift, supporting manual and equipment-based tasks. Ability to maintain a clean and organized workspace. Reliability in working assigned shifts, including first shift (7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.) and third shift (11:00 p.m.-7:30 a.m.) as scheduled. Basic ability to follow instructions for positioning materials and using simple machine controls. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in a paper recycling warehouse or similar industrial warehouse environment. general warehouse or construction labor. Experience with shipping and receiving operations. Experience with order picking and material staging. Comfort working around shredders, balers, and other industrial machinery. Work Environment The role is based in a paper recycling warehouse that handles large volumes of paper products for shredding, cutting, and shipment. Team members work around industrial shredders, balers, conveyors, and basic cutting equipment. Sit-down forklifts with various attachments are used regularly for loading, unloading, and moving materials throughout shipping, receiving, and production areas. Shifts include first shift (7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.) and third shift (11:00 p.m.-7:30 a.m.), depending on assignment. The environment is industrial and fast-paced, with paper dust and debris present, and requires frequent sweeping, shoveling, and general cleanup. Work is primarily performed indoors in a warehouse setting, and attire should be appropriate for a physical, industrial environment with a focus on safety. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of High Point, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $16.00/hr.
