Job DescriptionSummary of PositionThe Manufacturing Intern will support the organization and standardization of critical manufacturing documentation by creating a comprehensive binder (physical and/or digital) that consolidates procedures, standards, and records related to safety, quality, and productivity. This role will work closely with operations, engineering, and quality teams to ensure accurate, accessible, and up-to-date information.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesCollect, review, and organize documentation related to safety procedures, quality standards, and productivity metricsDevelop a structured binder and/or digital repository with clear sections, indexing, and version controlIdentify missing, outdated, or inconsistent documents and coordinate updates with appropriate teamsStandardize document formats, naming conventions, and revision tracking processesAssist in creating or updating standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and visual aidsSupport the development of process flow diagrams and documentation toolsEnsure documentation aligns with internal standards and applicable regulations (e.g., OSHA, ISO)Participate in shop floor walkthroughs to validate documentation accuracy against actual operationsSupport continuous improvement efforts by documenting best practices and process enhancementsPresent final documentation structure and recommendations for ongoing maintenanceQualificationsSkills Strong organizational and attention-to-detail skillsBasic understanding of manufacturing processesProficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)Ability to communicate effectively across cross-functional teamsAbility to work independently and collaborativelyTraits Detail-oriented with strong time and project management abilitiesStrong interpersonal and communication skillsProactive and eager to learn in a fast-paced environmentAdaptable and able to manage multiple prioritiesEducation and/or Experience Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or a related fieldFamiliarity with Lean Manufacturing principles (preferred)Exposure to quality systems such as ISO 9001 or Six Sigma (preferred)Experience with document control or technical writing (preferredLearning OutcomesGain hands-on experience with manufacturing systems and documentation control processesDevelop an understanding of safety, quality, and operational excellence practices in a production environmentBuild knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies, including Lean Manufacturing conceptsStrengthen skills in technical writing, document standardization, and process documentationEnhance cross-functional collaboration skills by working with operations, engineering, and quality teamsImprove problem-solving and analytical abilities through gap analysis and process evaluationPhysical RequirementsMust be able to lift and move materials up to 25 pounds independently and participate in team lifts of approximately 60 pounds as required for essential production tasks.
Must be able to remain in a stationary position or move throughout the production floor for extended periods (for the duration of the shift up to 8+ hours per shift).Must be able to operate, position, adjust, or move equipment, tools, or materials necessary for production processes.
Capable of performing consistent, manual production tasks over long shifts.
Must be able to work in typical manufacturing environmental conditions, including areas requiring PPE, exposure to noise, and temperature variation.
