  • $125,000 a year 7 hours ago Qualifications Certified Welding Inspector Construction quality control Working on construction projects Construction quality assurance Cross-functional communication Full Job Description Schuff Steel is seeking an experienced Quality Control Manager to oversee quality assurance and inspection activities for structural steel fabrication and erection projects.
This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with project specifications, AWS, ICC, AISC, RCSC, and applicable codes while maintaining a strong safety culture. The ideal candidate brings hands-on ironworking experience, a deep understanding of welding and bolting inspections, and proven leadership in field and quality operations. Primary Responsibilities Develop, implement, and manage the Quality Control (QC) Program for steel erection projects Oversee quality compliance for structural steel fabrication, welding, bolting, and installation Review and interpret contract documents, project specifications, shop drawings, and erection drawings Ensure compliance with AWS, AISC, ICC, and project-specific standards Perform and/or supervise inspections related to: Welding operations Structural steel bolting Material verification and traceability Fit-up, erection, and final installation Coordinate NDT activities including Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) and Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Prepare, review, and maintain inspection reports, NCRs, corrective actions, and QC documentation Act as primary quality liaison with general contractors, inspectors, and engineers Support field crews with technical guidance while maintaining quality and safety expectations Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance workmanship, efficiency, and compliance Required Qualifications Minimum 8-10 years of experience in structural steel erection and/or fabrication Prior experience as a Journeyman Ironworker with strong field knowledge Demonstrated experience with quality control, inspections, and compliance Ability to effectively manage quality processes in both field and office environments Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across multiple project teams Proficient in reviewing and interpreting construction design drawings, erector steel drawings, and shop assembly drawings to ensure field installation complies with project specifications, codes, and quality standards.
