Job Description:
The Center for Diversity & Inclusiveness is seeking a graduate student for employment. This position is funded by the university. All graduate students looking for employment are welcome to apply. Please see below the specific duties and responsibilities for the position. As a professional level staff member in training the Graduate Assistant for the Center for Diversity & Inclusiveness will be provided with a multitude of professional experiences. The person selected will coordinate growing social media engagement, researching best institutional practices, organize volunteer opportunities for students, and support programming initiatives out of the Center for Diversity & Inclusiveness.
Overview of Work:
Develop a social media engagement plan and grow current platforms. Support Heritage Month initiatives taking place on campus including Hispanic Heritage Month, LGBTQ+ History Month, Black History Month, Women's History Month, and Pride Month. Devising content, potential programs, and benchmarking what other institutions are doing with their Heritage/Identity Month calendars. Identify one new initiative each semester to integrate based on national and regional best practice for diversity, equity, and inclusion centers. Benchmark regional and national institutions on best practices. Schedule informational interviews with representatives from benchmarked institutions. Assist in scheduling university exchange visits to offices/departments in the region throughout the semester.
Programming Development:
Assist the Director and Program Coordinator with programming, dialogues, and training/retreat development. Work with non-profit organizations that offer volunteerism opportunities for students in the local area. Assist any student clubs that are working on promoting volunteerism.
Assessment:
Provide support on pre-post event surveys, website content etc.
Requirements:
Must be a graduate student or be accepted to the graduate program for Fall 2026. Ability to lift 50 lbs. Flexible work schedule required. Good written and verbal communication skills; strong customer service orientation; ability to interact well with the diverse segments of the Fitchburg State University community. The successful candidate will be a mature, responsible, independent thinker, who demonstrates flexibility and good problem-solving skills.
Preferred Requirements:
Past experience engaging with college age students. Past experience facilitating identity-based programs, events, and initiatives. Past experience facilitating training and development workshops.
