A Head Cashier manages all checkout functions including ensuring adequate staffing levels on checkouts, the processing of sales transactions and refunds, monitoring cash drawer amounts and maintaining the checkout area. Head cashier provides first level escalation for customer issues and assists in the supervision and training of cashiers. Head cashier may also be responsible for opening or closing procedures of a store, including alarm operation, unlocking store and setting up of checkout area.
Overview We are seeking an energetic, dependable, and customer-focused Front End Lead to join our Grocery Outlet team. The Front End Lead plays a key leadership role in creating a fast, friendly, and efficient checkout experience while helping maintain excellent store conditions and operational standards. This position is responsible for supporting and leading our cashier team, maintaining strong cash-handling controls, responding to customer needs, and ensuring the front end is clean, organized, stocked, and ready for business. Front End Leads are expected to set the example by demonstrating a strong sense of urgency, attention to detail, teamwork, and genuine care for our customers and the success of the store. Key Responsibilities Lead by example and help create a positive, energetic, and customer-focused environment at the front end. Provide friendly, professional, and efficient customer service while ensuring cashiers consistently meet our service expectations. Supervise and support cashiers throughout their shifts, including assigning registers, breaks, lunches, and other front-end duties. Train and coach cashiers on proper register procedures, customer service, cash handling, store policies, and operational expectations. Maintain accurate cash controls, including register accountability, till procedures, cash pickups, change requests, and other assigned cash-handling responsibilities. Respond promptly and professionally to customer questions, concerns, returns, price discrepancies, and other front-end situations. Keep checkout lanes, register areas, entrances, carts, impulse merchandise, and other front-end areas clean, organized, stocked, and customer-ready. Monitor lines and customer traffic and adjust cashier coverage as needed to provide fast and efficient checkout. Assist with stocking, facing, replenishment, go-backs, price verification, and maintaining strong merchandising standards throughout the front end. Support inventory controls by identifying pricing issues, damaged merchandise, shrink opportunities, and other conditions that could negatively impact store profitability. Help maintain Grand Opening conditions every day by continuously looking for opportunities to improve cleanliness, organization, merchandising, and the overall customer experience. Communicate effectively with Store Leadership and Department Leads regarding staffing, customer concerns, operational issues, and store priorities. Promote teamwork and accountability while helping maintain a respectful and productive work environment. Follow all company policies and procedures related to safety, security, food handling, cash handling, and loss prevention. Assist Store Leadership with additional responsibilities and store operations as needed. Qualifications Previous retail, grocery, cashier, or customer service experience preferred. Previous leadership, supervisory, or key-holder experience is preferred but not required for the right candidate. Strong customer service and communication skills. Ability to lead, coach, motivate, and hold team members accountable to store expectations. Dependable, punctual, organized, and able to work with a strong sense of urgency. Comfortable handling cash and performing basic math accurately. Ability to remain professional and make sound decisions in a fast-paced retail environment. Strong attention to detail and willingness to take ownership of store conditions. Ability to work collaboratively with cashiers, department employees, and store leadership. Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus. Availability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.
