AmeriCorps Members dedicate approximately one year of their life to serve communities throughout the United States that are in need of support. For this year of service, members earn a living stipend and education award. SPCDC AmeriCorps Members serve in all aspects of the agency's work, as well as with partner agencies located throughout Paterson and Passaic County, NJ. Duties range from working as aides in local food pantries, as case management support in homeless shelters, and as classroom support in after school and summer programs. Half-Time (HT) members must complete 900 service hours by the date stipulated.

In partnership with Youth Education Academy, we are seeking a Part-Time AmeriCorps Volunteer for the Youth Program Assistant position. Goal of the

Project:

Youth Education Academy's mission is to empower students and families through district-aligned afterschool programs, before-school programs and summer camp, fostering positive paths in safe and nurturing environments, committed to "making a YEA of a difference" in every community we serve.

The youth program assistant will:

Actively supervise and engage with youth during daily activities, ensuring safety and well-being. Lead and assist in academic, recreational, and enrichment activities that promote social and emotional growth. Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans aligned with program goals. Use positive behavior-management techniques to guide student conduct and promote self-esteem. Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and supervisors to support student success. Maintain accurate records, including attendance and incident reports, and assist in maintaining a clean, organized environment. Support academic acheivment and enrichment in alignment with YEA curriculum goals

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

H igh School Diploma or GED (required) Minimum of one year of experience working with children in a group setting (after-school, camp, or school) Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain with 90 days) Must meet NJ Office of Licensing requirements for child care personnel (Preferred) Some college coursework in Education, Child Development, or related fields.
