A Substance Abuse Counselor counsels people struggling with addictions to alcohol, drugs or other substances. Assists clients in dealing with personal and professional problems related to substance abuse. Collaborates with other health care and mental health care professionals to coordinate services for clients, and works with families of substance abusers. May work in a clinic, health care facility or community based program, or work with clients referred through the criminal justice system.

Full Job Description Job Summary Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated full time Addiction Counselor to join our team. Must be certified or have the ability to become certified as an Addiction Counselor Trainee/Supervisee. The ideal candidate will provide counseling and support to individuals struggling with addiction, helping them on their path to recovery.
Skills:
  • Conduct bio-psycho-social assessments and evaluations as assigned.
  • Facilitate outpatient group therapy sessions and individual counseling sessions.
  • Document client's participation in all scheduled group and counseling sessions.
  • Develop discharge summaries on all clients and send to appropriate individuals.
  • Complete release/consent forms to all appropriate individuals/agencies.
  • Attend and participate in all scheduled staff meetings.
  • Insure that all charting and all patient records comply with accreditation requirements.
  • Keep referral agencies informed of client's progress in treatment.
  • Attend training required for professional certification to meet program licensing standards.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
Minimum of high school diploma and certifiable at ACT/S or CAC level for addiction counseling in the state of South Dakota. Must be certified or have the ability to become certified as an Addiction Counselor Trainee/Supervisee. Must be willing to work evenings and/or Saturday. If interested in working in the chemical dependency field, we can train. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
