Job Description
General Description The Field Service Engineer reports to the Orange Services Manager and is responsible for providing on-site installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, and technical support for igus® Energy Chain products and engineered systems. This is a high-travel, customer-facing position requiring approximately 50-75% travel, primarily throughout North America, with occasional international travel. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver who is comfortable working independently at customer facilities and industrial job sites. Responsibilities Travel extensively to customer locations to install, commission, inspect, service, and repair igus® products and systems. Troubleshoot mechanical and equipment issues and implement effective solutions. Provide on-site technical support and customer training. Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and electrical/mechanical schematics. Manage field activities and ensure installations follow engineering specifications. Communicate with customers to understand needs, explain technical issues, and provide solutions. Prepare project proposals, quotes, budgets, schedules, and field reports. Oversee repairs, modifications, and technical improvements. Inspect and test equipment and materials for proper operation and safety. Collaborate with engineering, sales, and project management teams to ensure successful project completion. Requirements 5+ years of experience installing, servicing, commissioning, or troubleshooting industrial machinery or equipment. Engineering degree preferred; equivalent technical education and relevant experience will be considered. Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to read blueprints and electrical/mechanical schematics. Strong math and analytical abilities. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel. Ability to work independently and manage multiple field assignments. Valid driver's license and ability to travel by air and ground transportation. Ability to obtain a passport for potential international travel. Travel & Physical Requirements 50-75% travel, primarily North America; occasional international travel. Frequent overnight and multi-day travel should be expected. Ability to travel on short notice and work flexible hours when required by customer projects. Ability to lift and move up to 60 lbs. Ability to stand and work on your feet for extended periods. Ability to wear required PPE, including safety glasses and steel-toed footwear.
