Job Description

Category Nursing - RN-Psych Job Type Travel Elevate your nursing career by making a difference in psychiatric care for children and adolescents. This contract position on a specialized behavioral health unit offers the opportunity to provide compassionate, skilled care for patients with a wide range of behavioral and mental health needs. The 23-bed unit serves a pediatric and adolescent population facing challenges such as aggression, self-harm, trauma, and impulse-control disorders.
Schedule:
Three 12-hour shifts per week Rotating weekends (every third weekend) No on-call requirements Holiday coverage based on facility schedule Flexibility to float between child and adult units as needed
Qualifications:
Registered Nurse, licensed to practice BLS certification required CPI certification obtained on site (must be able to safely restrain and assist pediatric patients physically) At least six months of recent psychiatric nursing experience Previous travel experience (must have completed at least one travel assignment) Strong de-escalation skills and experience managing multiple escalated situations Comfortable with IM medication administration and milieu management Willingness and ability to manage a unit independently, across a wide age range and varying functioning levels
Responsibilities:
Care for pediatric/adolescent patients presenting with acute behavioral challenges Administer medications, including IM meds and asthma treatments Utilize EMR (Cerner) and unit-specific equipment like restraint beds and chairs Make informed decisions regarding seclusion/restraints and safety interventions Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including case managers, therapists, and security personnel Adapt to unit needs, including floating between patient age groups and units
