As a Field Boilermaker-Pipefitter Combo Welder, you'll travel to customer facilities across the Dallas area to assemble, refurbish, and install industrial boilers, pressure vessels, and supporting piping systems. You'll turn blueprints into working realities, ensuring safety, performance, and uptime for mission-critical boiler rooms. What your day looks like Review drawings and layout details, mapping out part locations and fit-up sequences. Build and reassemble pressure-containing equipment—boilers, tanks, vats, and vessels—using power and hand tools with precision. Join fire tubes to heads and water tubes to drums/headers by expanding, belling, and beading ends using expanders, hammers, and related tools. Drill and tap for studs, torque fasteners to spec, and mount components such as casings, davit heads, burners, furnace housings, manways, handholes, gauges, fans, and valves. Diagnose and replace damaged parts or piping; remove and reinstall insulation; seal seams; and, when needed, install or repair refractory brick/tile. Cut out deteriorated sections, tube ends, or components with oxy-fuel (acetylene) equipment. Pipefitting in the field Lay out, fabricate, assemble, and install piping for boiler systems—threaded, sweated copper, and press-fit—selecting the correct materials and sizes to spec. Survey work areas for interferences and structural considerations, then plan installation order to coordinate with other trades. Cut, thread, and bend pipe using saws, cutters, threading machines, and benders; assemble and secure runs with clamps, brackets, and hangers. Pressure-test systems and monitor gauges to validate leak-free performance. As needed, weld temporary or permanent holding fixtures onto structural members. Combo welding expectations Bring proven experience in boiler fabrication, retubing, pipefitting, and welding on industrial systems. Successfully complete our company weld qualification using SMAW in the 6G position on a 2-inch, Schedule 180 pipe (5/8-inch wall) with a 6010 root and 7018 fill/cap. Perform ASME-code work across MIG, TIG, and SMAW processes. Have recent, hands-on experience welding pipe and/or boiler tubes. Qualifications Education High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience & abilities Comfort working to tight tolerances; able to interpret complex drawings and visualize 3D assemblies. Capable of passing a 6G weld test, including a super coupon. Physically able to work with hands skillfully; lift/carry up to 50 lbs; work at heights on ladders and scaffolds; stand, stoop, kneel, and crouch; and maintain good vision (corrected if needed). Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Additional expectations Precision decision-making using measurable criteria and blueprint data. Ability to pass a 6G weld test, including super coupon (reiterated due to role criticality).
