Electrical Estimator Truebeck Construction - 2.6 San Mateo, CA Job Details $135,000 - $185,000 a year 7 hours ago Qualifications Working on electrical estimation projects Low voltage Full Job Description Purpose The Electrical Estimator is office based and has a proven record of success and experience in commercial, government, healthcare, life science, and/or industrial construction. The role prepares cost estimates for construction projects or services and provides peer review for other Estimators. The Electrical Estimator provides complete and accurate estimates for each assignment according to the company's estimating procedures. The Electrical Estimator fills in scope gaps at early stages of design and procures Electrical and Low Voltage Systems trade packages by writing detailed instructions to bidders and assessing trade partner proposals, while juggling multiple projects at various stages of design. The Estimator performs detailed open book estimates and change order reviews to ensure trade partners adhere to bid day parameters and are pricing according to industry standards. The Electrical Estimator also mentors other Estimators and Cost Engineers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Preconstruction Attend pre-bid, post-bid, business development, trainings, safety gatherings, and estimating department meetings. Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations. Demonstrate ability to make the right decisions, and help guide others. Compute cost factors and prepare estimates, organize, and schedule work. Select potential subcontractors, and determine best overall value for the project. Develop cost plans and estimates from concept through detailed design. Provide value engineering opportunities that can benefit the project. Apply practical knowledge of construction means and methods to enhance the overall design. Continue education and training in work related skills. Attend on-line and in-person trainings, organize symposiums, participate in scheduled learning activities. Review and update historical cost data. Maintain departmental templates, and update as necessary. Use historical data to benchmark similar current projects. Translate written technical documents to others with supporting costs. Review proposed design changes. Develop and understand the cost implications of these changes. Identify unique cost drivers. Any other task or duty as assigned or required. Business Development Provide exceptional customer service and employer representation. Maintain relationships, and work collaboratively with others. Communicate well with employees, clients, and trade partners, and apply the company mission and values. Leadership Understand those you work with, and volunteer to assist as necessary to ensure the team is prospering. Coordinate expectations with other team members. Teach others how to understand technical documents in the same way you do. Teach others the tips and tricks that come with experience. Skills and Specifications Excellent organizational skills, tremendous ability to multi-task, ability to work under pressure, manage time effectively, and meet tight deadlines. Lead, and coordinate with other team members and be a team player. Understand written technical documents. Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, Accubid, LiveCount, Bluebeam, and other related software. Effective written, verbal, and presentation skills. Skillful with methods of construction procurement such as Design/Build, Design/Assist, and Plan/Spec. Demonstrated analytical, problem solving, and both oral and written communication skills with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to less-technical audiences. Knowledge, Education, and experience Bachelors' Degree, or other 4-year degree, in engineering or construction related field is preferred, or equivalent education and construction estimating experience. Preferred minimum of 5-10 year of experience in commercial construction electrical estimating. Experience in estimating both electrical and low voltage systems is a must. Knowledge and experience gained from several industry sectors is preferred. Fire Alarm, 2-way Communications, ERRCS, Cellular DAS, Telecom, Security, and Audio/Visual. Excellent knowledge of construction practices, methods, trends, and crew data. Good knowledge of all methods of construction procurement such as Design/Build, Design/Assist, and Plan/Spec. Experience with advising clients on value management, value engineering, and life cycle costing. Passion for learning, leadership, teamwork, customer relations skills, a sense of urgency, and full of integrity. Experience estimating the following project types: Life Science, Healthcare, Higher Learning, Large Campus projects, Mission Critical, Solar, and Underground Dry Utilities. Range of base pay is $135,000-$185,000.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
The incumbent typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office. Incumbent may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the work day. The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to 20 pounds. The incumbent may also make frequent visits to various construction sites. At these construction sites, the incumbent may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and risk of vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to very loud.
