Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the Maintenance Foreman, the Equipment Operator safely operates and maintains all equipment utilized in the repair and maintenance of District facilities. Equipment includes, but is not limited to, backhoe, dozer, dump truck, gradall, grader/sloper, crane, farm tractor and implements, water truck, and spray rigs. Equipment Operator may also be required to perform canal maintenance, pumping plant maintenance, pipeline maintenance, maintenance on equipment as well as other District duties as needed.
TYPICAL TASKS
Excavate for repair and installation of pipelines. Haul dirt and rock for the repair and rejuvenation of District facilities. Use equipment to remove weeds and other debris from the canal and District right-of-way. Repair washouts and erosion in pond dikes and canal berms. Assist in the repair of leaks and breaks in pipelines. Cutting and spraying weeds. Removal and replacement of pumps.
DESIRABLE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION
  • Graduation from high school or hold a G.
E.D certificate.
EXPERIENCE
  • Experience in operating equipment comparable to District equipment, and be proficient in written and verbal communication skills.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Must obtain thorough knowledge of District operations with regard to emergency procedures, and organization policies. Must maintain a willingness to work irregular hours and able to work with minimum supervision. Develop and maintain effective work relationships with fellow employees and deal tactfully with the public. Must be accurate, thorough, neat, and able to meet schedules and deadlines. Keep records.
PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS AND DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and operate equipment (i.e. backhoe, motor grader, Gradall, etc.) at extended periods of time. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk, drive a District vehicle, and walk on uneven or wet or slippery ground, and including ground, which may contain a few easily avoidable obstacles. The employee is required to use the hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, and occasionally crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS A
job-related physical examination and drug screening is mandatory as well as a valid, Class A California Driver's License and an acceptable DMV record. Other licenses may be necessary to acquire.
WORKING CONDITIONS WAGES
  • See current Non-Exempt Wage Schedule. HOURS
  • Monday through Friday 0700
  • 1530 (0600
  • 1430 for summer hours), 80 hours per two-week pay period. Breaks include half-hour lunch break
  • 1200 to 1230. Additional scheduled breaks are 15 minutes at 0900 and 1400 hours. Fair Labor Standards Act
  • Classification is Non-Exempt.
