Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Step into an important role supporting students across several schools in the New Orleans area as a full-time special education teacher. This contract opportunity, running from now until late May 2027, invites certified professionals to make a meaningful impact by mentoring fellow educators and guiding the special education process for a diverse group of learners. What sets this position apart is its itinerant nature: you will travel between multiple school sites, collaborating with non-certified special education teachers to enhance instructional strategies, support IEP development, manage data collection, and contribute to student progress reporting. Key Qualifications:
Valid Louisiana Department of Education Certification with Special Education Endorsement (no TA or TAT accepted) Demonstrated expertise in writing IEPs, conducting progress reports, and applying evidence-based teaching strategies Flexibility and adaptability to work in various educational settings and travel between campuses Strong collaboration and mentoring abilities Successful completion of required background, drug, and fingerprint screenings
Primary Responsibilities:
Support non-certified teachers with instructional planning and classroom management within special education settings Assist in writing and maintaining IEPs, collecting and analyzing progress data, and compiling thorough reports Model effective teaching methods and share strategies for differentiated instruction Cultivate positive relationships with students, staff, and families across assigned schools This full-time position operates on a 35-hour workweek (Monday to Friday) aligned with the academic calendar, offering you consistent hours, professional growth, and rewarding, hands-on experience in the field.
