Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Step into a meaningful role providing essential support to high school students with significant behavioral and emotional needs. This contract opportunity offers the chance to make a lasting impact in a specialized high school environment for the 2026-2027 school year, supporting a dedicated group of students in a self-contained or sub-separate classroom setting. With 35 hours per week, you'll be instrumental in fostering positive growth and academic achievement for young people who need it most.
Key Qualifications:
Active Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) Special Education license in the targeted grade band (Secondary required) Commitment to Right to
Read Act Compliance:
Certified in, or willingness to complete, Rhode Island Structured Literacy proficiency within the first year Demonstrated experience supporting students with Emotional Behavioral Disorders (EBD) or severe behavioral challenges, preferably in a self-contained or sub-separate classroom Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and communicate effectively with families
Primary Responsibilities:
Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) that address academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs Create a structured, supportive classroom environment tailored to students requiring intensive interventions Employ effective strategies and interventions to manage and support challenging behaviors Collaborate with school teams to ensure progress and compliance with state/federal regulations Foster strong relationships with students, promoting resilience and self-advocacy Guide classroom aides and support staff to enhance instructional outcomes You'll thrive in a collaborative and student-focused community, where your specialized skills are valued and your dedication to student success is rewarded.
