full-time Position Summary The Assistant Controller reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and plays a key role in supporting the Accounting Department's day-to-day operations. This individual will be involved in all aspects of accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, audit support, payroll, human resources administration, tax compliance, and nonprofit reporting. The ideal candidate will have strong general ledger accounting experience, exposure to audits and financial reporting, and the ability to thrive in a hands-on environment where collaboration and flexibility are highly valued. Responsibilities Perform month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities. Prepare bank and investment reconciliations. Maintain general ledger accounts and prepare journal entries. Analyze balance sheet, revenue, and expense accounts. Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules. Assist with the annual budgeting process. Participate in the annual audit and financial statement preparation. Prepare and assist with IRS Form 990 and various state and federal tax filings. Manage and reconcile grant and donor reporting activities for Kensico's affiliated nonprofit organization. Support payroll processing and employee benefits administration. Assist with human resources-related matters and employee inquiries. Review work completed by accounting staff and support the Accounting Manager as needed. Provide backup support for accounts payable and accounts receivable functions. Assist with endowment and annual care accounting responsibilities. Help document and monitor internal controls. Prepare management reports and financial analyses. Participate in process improvement initiatives and special projects. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required. CPA preferred but not required. 5-10 years of accounting experience. Strong knowledge of GAAP. Experience with financial reporting and account reconciliations. Audit support experience preferred. Budgeting and financial analysis experience preferred. Nonprofit experience preferred but not required. Exposure to payroll and human resources functions is highly desirable. Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office. Sage 300 experience is a plus.
