Job Summary Job Summary The Senior Program Specialist, Los Angeles County Office of Education Special Education Local Plan Area (LACOE SELPA), shall collaborate with SELPA and site staff on special education compliance matters; act as a resource to professional and technical personnel in special education systems and programs; assess and determine program needs; implement program objectives; conduct in-service training; and may serve as a liaison with other agencies. This position requires both specialized subject matter expertise in special education and significant, directly related experience. Knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Improvement Act 2004 (IDEA), California Education Code and accompanying regulations is essential. Under the direction of the Executive SELPA Director, the Senior Program Specialist assists in making decisions of considerable consequence, impacting SELPA programs via participation in and chairing IEPs; gathering and interpretation of data, facts, procedures, and policies. The Senior Program Specialist meets regularly with SELPA personnel, principals, assistant principals, special education service providers, teachers, clerical and other internal staff on special education compliance matters and to disseminate and coordinate information and activities regarding special education related data, policies, and procedures. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Any combination of education and experience that would be likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtaining the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
Five or more years of directly related and progressive teaching or direct service experience in special education.
Education:
A Bachelor's Degree from an institution of higher learning accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. A Master's Degree is desirable but not required.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
  • Possess and maintain a valid California Special Education K-12 Teaching Credential (required).
  • Multiple Subject or Single Subject Credential (highly desirable, but not required).
