What they do
A Surveyor measures the surface of the Earth and collects data used to make maps, set boundaries, and determine the shape and contour of sections of land. Uses global positioning system (GPS) and global information system (GIS) technology to make measurements. May specialize in measurements to determine airspace boundaries; may conduct marine or hydrographic surveys to measure bodies of water and determine shorelines and water flow and depth.

Job Description
- Conduct comprehensive property and title research, including long-form (100-year) title searches and compilation of digital title abstracts.
- Utilize online databases, public records, and GIS platforms to support accurate landowner identification and research.
- Lead QA/QC efforts on personal work and the work of others to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare and deliver project reports, and handle landowner interactions—including securing easements, negotiations, and responding to inquiries.
- Support all ROW project activities including permitting, acquisition, documentation, and collaboration with project teams, performing other related duties as needed. Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Thorough understanding of right of way laws
- Ability to digitally compile title abstracts illustrating a complete chain of title along with pertinent encumbrances that may directly impact proposed surface use
- Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation
- Ability to multi-task on various tasks and projects
- Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the team
- Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting, engage in creative and critical thought, and effectively communicate concepts and ideas to others
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings
- Ability to read and interpret land survey documents and right of way maps
- Familiarity with the provisions of the VDOT Right of Way Manual as it applies to the acquisition of property
- Familiarity with project management cycle
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite
- Experience analyzing titles and title reports
- Ability to identify key information about parcels and communicate effectively with stakeholders
- Ability to read and understand real estate terminology
- Ability to ascertain types of title evidence required to obtain property descriptions and identify parties of interest
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time
- English language proficient
- Valid Driver's LicenseBilingual (Spanish) a plus Education and Experience
- Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum 1 year of experience within ROW/Title Research Position will primarily work in an office setting but may require field work.

- $80,100.00 Annually
Pay Transparency:
- In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
