Job Description

Mercy is seeking a Nursing Director to lead clinical operations within our Healthcare & Medical Services department. This role oversees nursing staff, ensures high-quality patient care, and drives evidence-based practice and compliance with regulatory standards. The Nursing Director will manage budgets, staffing, and performance metrics while fostering a collaborative, compassionate culture. Partner with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to improve outcomes, implement quality and safety initiatives, and support staff development through mentoring, education, and change management across Mercy's Midwest facilities. Responsibilities Provide strategic leadership for nursing services across assigned units or service lines Ensure delivery of safe, high-quality, evidence-based patient care Oversee staffing, scheduling, and workforce planning for nursing teams Develop and manage departmental operating and capital budgets Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, and state regulatory requirements Lead quality improvement, patient safety, and patient experience initiatives Recruit, mentor, and evaluate nursing leaders and staff Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to optimize clinical outcomes Implement policies, procedures, and best practices for nursing care Drive professional development, education, and succession planning for nursing staff Required Skills Nursing leadership Clinical operations management Budgeting and financial management Staffing and workforce planning Regulatory compliance (Joint Commission, CMS, state) Quality improvement and patient safety Performance management and coaching Change management Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems Data analysis and healthcare metrics
