Job Summary:
The Asset Protection Specialist will be critical in assisting and protecting company assets through proactive risk management processes, shrink reduction initiatives, investigations, audits, employee training, ORC (Organized Retail Crime) prevention, and the effective use of advanced technology. This position serves as a key partner to store leadership, utilizing AI-powered asset protection tools, video surveillance systems, data analytics, and case management platforms to identify risks and support operational excellence. The Asset Protection Specialist will be full-time and work a set rotational schedule that provides ample coverage during the hours of operation across the organization.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Risk Management & Shrink Reduction Leverage risk management processes to identify, assess, and mitigate threats, uncertainties, and potential losses across the organization. Assist with the development, implementation, training, and monitoring of a comprehensive shrink program to reduce and effectively manage shrink across all departments. Partner with company leadership to implement strategies that reduce shrink and improve compliance with company controls and procedures. Conduct required asset protection, front-end, DSD, and security audits and recommend corrective action as needed. Theft Prevention, ORC & Apprehension Monitor and investigate shoplifting, organized retail crime, internal theft, and other asset protection concerns. Monitor, identify, and investigate theft trends, repeat offenders, high-risk areas, organized retail crime activity, and other asset protection concerns. Partner with law enforcement on ORC, repeat offenders, criminal cases, and compliant apprehensions in accordance with company policy and prosecution requirements. Complete required apprehension documentation, trespass notices, civil restitution processes, and law enforcement notifications. Investigations & Technology Conduct surveillance and video investigations using CCTV, AI-powered asset protection tools, transaction analytics, and other technology. Review alerts, exceptions, transactions, and video footage to identify risk management opportunities, policy violations, and operational risks. Manage and/or partner on investigations from initial detection through resolution, maintaining accurate case files, evidence, and incident reports. Use case management and reporting systems to document investigative findings and support legal or management action. Training & Partnership Work closely with store leadership and associates to promote shrink awareness, theft prevention, and operational compliance. Provide asset protection training, coaching, and guidance to store teams. Communicate risk trends, investigative findings, and recommended actions to management. Maintain professional, confidential, and customer-focused interactions with customers, employees, vendors, and law enforcement.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Proficiency in technology skills and data analytics with the ability to quickly learn and utilize AI-based asset protection platforms, surveillance systems, and digital case management tools, experience with ThinkLP preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and general computer systems, including surveillance video and conducting video-based investigations. Proficiency in analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills. Ability to identify trends, assess risk, and develop practical loss mitigation strategies. Strong knowledge of retail theft, shrink, ORC, and investigative practices preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare professional reports and maintain detailed records. Strong conflict resolution, discretion, collaboration, de-escalation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to exercise sound judgment during sensitive and high-pressure situations. Work Environment & Physical Demands:
Primarily works in an office environment with occasional to frequent travel to retail environments for training, auditing, and investigations with movement throughout sales floors, receiving areas, stockrooms, and parking lots. Requires walking, standing, and active observation for extended periods. Regularly utilizes computers, mobile devices, surveillance systems, AI monitoring platforms, and digital case management software. Requires prolonged viewing and analysis of live and recorded video surveillance footage. Must be able to quickly respond to developing situations while maintaining composure and professionalism. Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of up to 25 pounds. Must be available to work full-time on set rotation schedules, ranging across all hours of operations across the organization, including holidays as business needs require.
