Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM; occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekends Position Summary The Community Relations / Public Sector Associate supports the mission and visibility of United Way of South Texas through marketing, communications, community engagement, volunteer recruitment, events, and administration of the State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC) throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Qualifications Bachelors degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Administration, or related field. Experience in communications, public relations, marketing, or nonprofit work preferred. Strong written, verbal, organizational, interpersonal, and public-speaking skills. Experience developing marketing and communications materials, including newsletters, brochures, annual reports, flyers, and press releases. Proficiency with social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, X, and LinkedIn. Working knowledge of WordPress, Microsoft Office, Zoom, Teams, and Google Meet. Strong graphic design skills and proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro. Ability to work independently, collaborate with a team, and manage multiple deadlines. Bilingual English/Spanish and grant-writing experience are a plus. Must have reliable transportation and appropriate liability insurance for work-related travel. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds. Key Responsibilities Marketing & Communications Develop and implement year-round marketing and communications strategies. Create and maintain newsletters, annual reports, brochures, press releases, flyers, social media content, and other promotional materials. Maintain accurate, current website and social media content while following United Way brand standards. Publish and manage approved weekly social media content. Volunteer South Texas Manage the Volunteer South Texas platform. Recruit and train participating agencies and agency managers. Increase volunteer participation and coordinate Volunteer South Texas Week each April. State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC) Administer the SECC for the Rio Grande Valley. Coordinate meetings, trainings, employee communications, applications, data entry, records, deadlines, and required reports. Plan and the annual SECC awards ceremony. Provide campaign presentations in Hidalgo and Starr Counties, both in person and virtually. Community Relations & Events Build relationships with community organizations, agencies, businesses, and other partners. Promote United Way programs, funded agencies, and community success stories. Assist with planning and execution of United Way events and programs. Identify opportunities for collaboration, fundraising, marketing, and technology advancement. Represent United Way with professionalism and integrity at all times. Additional Requirements Willingness to attend occasional trainings and conferences, including out-of-town events. Flexibility to work outside regular business hours as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.
