Shift:
10pm - 8am (Monday - Friday) The Packer supports efficient food production by safely and accurately packaging products according to established specifications and quality standards. This role prepares and operates packaging equipment, maintains a clean and organized work area, and ensures that all products meet regulatory and company requirements for food safety and quality. The Packer rotates through various packaging tasks during the shift, contributes to continuous improvement in safety and productivity, and accurately records production data in the company systems. Responsibilities Perform all tasks in strict accordance with Safety and Food Safety Standards, always prioritizing a safe work environment. Participate in safety training programs and actively contribute to safety initiatives that promote a strong culture of safety. Ensure full compliance with regulatory and third‑party requirements, including SQF, GMP, HACCP, OSHA, and related food safety, sanitation, and environmental regulations such as Food Fraud/Defense, Allergens, Organic, and Gluten Free programs. Maintain thorough knowledge of the products being packed, including product specifications and the correct weight of each tortilla produced. Retrieve and review product specifications from the company ERP system to ensure packaging accuracy. Identify and understand the specifications of boxes and bags used for packaging, including size, type, and labeling requirements. Program date coding machines for bags and boxes according to product rotation and daily production needs. Prepare the workstation at the start of each shift with the required bags, boxes, and materials for the day's production. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout the shift in line with good housekeeping policies and SQF guidelines. Follow the production schedule and specifications to meet productivity goals and ensure timely completion of packaging runs. Participate in line rotation throughout the day or workweek, including moving to other lines, assisting co‑workers, and cleaning lines during machine downtime or break and lunch coverage. Maintain continuous communication with line leaders and machine operators regarding any product deficiencies, such as raw or overcooked tortillas, incorrect weight, or improper size, and proactively address issues. Operate packaging equipment, including Auto Baggers, Ilapak machines, and related automated bagging systems, in a safe and efficient manner. Perform complete changeovers in the packaging area, including adjustments to the vision system, counter stacker, auto bagger, bag printer, and weight settings. Enter accurate production information into the TGI Machine Log and complete product pathways in the TGI system. Record all downtime events in the Machine Log system to support accurate reporting and troubleshooting. Retrieve packaging materials from the warehouse as needed and return all unused materials to warehouse storage at the end of each production run. Use computers and RF guns proficiently to access specifications, record data, and manage inventory or material movements. Continuously rotate within assigned workstations, including packaging tortillas, boxing tortillas, lifting boxes up to 50 lbs, stacking, palletizing, and organizing finished product. Assist with quality assurance activities, which may include pH verification, metal detection checks, recording pH levels, identifying specification deviations, and performing line quality checks. Follow and comply with all SQF requirements and maintain workstations in compliance with SQF standards. Perform visual inspections of products and packaging to identify defects, contamination, or non‑conformance and promptly report any issues. Handle general labor tasks such as picking, material handling, palletizing, stacking, and inventory-related activities as needed to support production flow. Operate pallet jacks and other industrial equipment to move or transport finished products and raw materials safely within the facility. Access and interpret production reports and product specifications via the ERP system and ensure accurate data entry for production records. Adhere to all company policies regarding attendance, punctuality, and zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use. Comply with all food safety policies and third‑party certification requirements, including SQF, Gluten-Free, and Organic standards. Perform other duties as assigned to support production, quality, and safety objectives. Essential Skills Grade school education required; High School Diploma or GED is a plus. 1-2 years of experience operating or working with food manufacturing machinery or similar production equipment. 1-2 years of experience following work task specifications, standard operating procedures, recipes, or similar instructions. Proficient verbal and written communication skills to follow instructions and document information accurately. Proficiency in basic math and proper use of a calculator for weight, count, and production calculations. Basic computer skills, including the ability to enter and retrieve data from ERP and production systems. Proficient analytical and problem‑solving skills to identify and resolve issues in product quality or packaging. Strong organizational skills to manage materials, documentation, and workflow in a fast‑paced environment. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team player and support co‑workers across different tasks and lines. Self‑motivation and attention to detail, including the ability to identify errors in products and packaging materials. Ability to work at required production speeds while consistently following established safety requirements. Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 lbs on a regular basis. Ability to perform work while standing for prolonged periods and to walk continually on hard surfaces. Ability to bend, stoop, crawl, reach, grasp, kneel, squat, and work in adverse or awkward positions as needed. Reliability and punctuality, with flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and off‑shifts as required by production demands. Ability to remain in a consistent state of alertness and perform all essential job functions in a safe manner. Ability to comply fully with all food safety, SQF, Gluten-Free, Organic, and related third‑party certification policies. Willingness and ability to comply with a drug and alcohol zero tolerance policy. Additional Skills & Qualifications High School Diploma or GED is preferred and considered an advantage. Experience with packing, packaging, production, general labor, picking, material handling, palletizing, stacking, and inventory tasks. Familiarity with production reports and the ability to interpret and act on production data. Experience accessing product specifications and entering production data into an ERP system. Experience assisting with quality assurance programs, including pH verification, metal detection, and line quality checks. Comfort working around rotating and reciprocating machine parts in a manufacturing environment. Experience driving industrial equipment such as pallet jacks or similar material handling equipment. Strong sense of responsibility for maintaining production line efficiency and meeting packaging specifications. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elk Grove, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.57 - $21.57/hr.
