This is an administrative position responsible for assisting the Police Department with its unique and extensive service population, such as the City's recovery community, homeless residents, and individuals with behavioral health issues. Internship duration is six months unless extended by the Police Chief. Essential Job Duties The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Assist Service Population Advocate (SPA) with advocacy efforts and initiatives on behalf the City's recovery community, homeless residents, and individuals with behavioral health issues. Assist with crisis intervention as needed. Assist with case management as needed Assist SPA with all related administrative functions, including referrals, documentation, phone calls, scheduling appointments, meetings, and outreach. Work with partner organizations to help ensure resource objectives. Minimum Qualifications Must be currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program with with an interest in social work, counseling, criminal justice, human services or related field. Knowledge of and proficiency in the use of computers and Microsoft operating systems. Possession of a valid State of Florida Class "E" driver's license with no more than six (6) points in a three (3) year period. Strong interpersonal skills, as well as empathy, compassion and effective listening skills. Highly organized with strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to maintain good working relationships, exercise initiative and sound judgment. Interest in working with those individuals in need.Preferred:
Interested and /or experienced in: Working in a behavioral health or criminal justice setting Customer service and/or outreach calls. Searching databases and running inquiries to find relevant resources. Dual diagnosis, case management, Marchman Act, Baker Act and HIPAA. Schedule Must be able to work a minimum of 12 hours per week, not to exceed a maximum of 29 hours per week. Hours are flexible and will be scheduled from Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4 pm. Expectations Candidates selected for an Internship will be expected to comply with all City and Department rules and regulations. In addition, candidates will be expected to wear appropriate attire during working hours in accordance with the City of Delray Beach policy, conduct themselves in a professional manner, maintain the confidentiality of any information obtained through the Internship Program. The abilities expected of all employees include being able to respond to supervision, guidance and direction of superiors in a positive, receptive manner and in accordance with stated policies, be appropriately groomed and attired so as to present a professional image in accordance with the organization's mission, goals, and policies; report for work promptly and properly prepared at the time and place required by the assignment or orders; notify the appropriate supervisor of intended absences in accordance with stated rules; conform with standards and rules regarding use of accrued time; demonstrate a polite, helpful and courteous manner when engaged in any activity with the public; operate and care for equipment to manufacturer's specifications and/or within the specified parameters; demonstrate an understanding, consideration, and respect of cultural, religious, and gender differences when interacting with the public and colleagues. A comparable combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position, may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.Supplemental Information Physical Demands/Work Environment:
