Job Description
Position Summary We are seeking a Catholic Religious Education Coordinator to support the 20th Fighter Wing Chaplain Corps at Shaw Air Force Base. The Coordinator will work with the Catholic Chaplain to manage religious education and faith formation programs for children and adults. Employment is contingent upon contract award, government approval, and successful completion of required background and base-access checks. Key Responsibilities Plan and maintain the annual Catholic religious education calendar. Coordinate religious education classes, catechist training, and parent programs. Organize First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation preparation, including required retreats. Support adult faith formation and seasonal programs. Coordinate a four- to five-day Catholic camp during the summer. Recruit, train, and support catechists, teachers, and volunteers. Ensure volunteers complete required background checks and child-protection training. Maintain attendance records, program files, schedules, reports, and supply inventories. Coordinate curriculum, budget, facility, and supply requests with Chapel staff. Ensure curriculum complies with Archdiocese for the Military Services and USCCB requirements. Attend Sunday classes and events, arriving at least 30 minutes before the scheduled start. Follow applicable Air Force, installation, chapel, safety, and security requirements. Participate in occasional approved travel for meetings, conferences, or training. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in education and/or at least two years of experience as a Catholic Director or Coordinator of Religious Education. Active, practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church. Must have received Confirmation and provide a Catholic priest or pastoral reference. Must meet Archdiocese for the Military Services catechist certification requirements. Experience managing Catholic religious education programs serving children through adults. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and collaborate in an ecumenical and interfaith environment. Reliable transportation and telephone access. Conditions of Employment Successful federal, installation, and criminal-history background checks. Eligibility to obtain and maintain Shaw AFB access and required credentials. Completion of required security, information-assurance, and child-protection training. Availability for Sunday programming and approved weekday office hours. Availability for an interview with the Catholic Chaplain and designated representatives.
