Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Make a significant impact in a transition classroom setting supporting young adults ages 18-22 during the 2026-2027 school year. This full-time, onsite opportunity in the Auburn, WA area focuses on delivering specialized instruction and guidance to students navigating the critical post-high school transition, helping them gain skills for independence and future success.
Required Qualifications:
Valid Washington Special Education (SPED) teaching license and ESA certificate; candidates must submit verification of both. Minimum of five years of teaching experience in special education; prior experience in school-based settings is essential. Proficiency with transitional programming for students aged 18-22, including individualized education program (IEP) development. Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team to support students' educational and life skills. Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational abilities. Willingness and ability to complete a Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) adjudication process (this may delay the start date by approximately one week).
Key Responsibilities:
Provide instruction and support in transition classrooms for students with diverse learning needs. Develop, update, and implement IEPs targeted for ages 18-22, ensuring compliance with state and federal requirements. Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages growth and independence. Collaborate with school staff, families, and outside agencies to facilitate smooth transitions to adulthood. Maintain comprehensive student records, progress monitoring, and timely reporting. Engage in ongoing professional development and participate in school-wide initiatives.
