DESCRIPTION OF BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of the Superintendent or designee, the Alternative Schools Administrator provides leadership and oversight of the District's continuation high school and alternative education programs, ensuring that all students receive equitable access to academic, social-emotional, and post-secondary opportunities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Serve as the site administrator for the District's continuation high school and independent study program, providing instructional leadership, supervision, and evaluation of assigned certificated and classified staff. Coordinate the district's summer school program, including hiring staff and managing the budget. Oversee the district's alternative educational programs and contracts. Develop and maintain an alternative education environment that emphasizes academic success, credit recovery, and college and career readiness. Oversee student enrollment, placement, attendance, and discipline consistent with Education Code and Board Policy. Lead and facilitate the continuous improvement process. Oversee the after school tutoring program in the district. Develop and monitor student support systems, including counseling, restorative practices, and intervention services. Coordinate and foster partnerships with district schools, community agencies, workforce programs, and county offices to provide wraparound supports and transition opportunities for students. Oversee site-level budgeting, scheduling, safety planning, and daily operations for alternative education programs. Ensure alignment between alternative education instructional programs and district curriculum, standards, and graduation requirements. Foster a positive, inclusive, and restorative school climate that promotes attendance, belonging, and student leadership. Attend and represent the District and School at events. Communicate clearly and effectively with students, staff, families, and community partners. Analyze data to evaluate student progress, program effectiveness, and resource allocation. Maintain positive working relationships with all stakeholders. May supervise other employees as assigned. Attend Board of Education meetings and other public forums as required. Perform other related duties as assigned.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Knowledge of:
Laws, regulations, and compliance requirements for alternative education. Principles of educational leadership, supervision, and evaluation. Instructional strategies for unduplicated pupils. Planning, organization, and continuous improvement systems for educational programs. Data collection, analysis, and reporting methods. Proper English usage, grammar, and presentation skills. Effective methods for collaboration, conflict resolution, and team leadership.
Ability to:
Provide effective leadership for continuation and alternative educational programs. Supervise and evaluate assigned certificated and classified staff. Coordinate complex projects and meet strict deadlines. Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. Build collaborative relationships with students, staff, families, and community agencies. Work independently and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS
Valid California Teaching Credential Valid California Administrative Services Credential or Certificate of Eligibility TB test clearance Criminal Justice fingerprint process clearance.
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS
Sufficient vision to monitor a variety of activities and read various documents. Sufficient hearing for normal telephone conversations. Sufficient dexterity to write, operate telephone and business machines. Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversational distance, on the telephone and in addressing groups. Sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Physical, mental and emotional stamina to endure long hours under sometimes stressful conditions.
