Standardized Patient/Participant, College of Osteopathic Medicine Job Description:
A Standardized Patient/Participant (SP) will have the unique opportunity to be involved in shaping the medical education of tomorrow's physicians and other health care professionals. In doing so, an SP will assist in transforming care and providing positive experiences for CHSU students. Standardized Patients/Participants simulate individuals in various medical, behavioral, and emotional scenarios. Each scenario is designed to meet the needs of the curriculum and associated learning objectives. Part of an SP's responsibilities is to complete a detailed assessment tool (checklist) of the learner and provide feedback regarding the learner's communication skills.Reports to:

Staff, Part Time, Non-Exempt Essential Duties:
- Simulate individuals in both clinical and non-clinical scenarios for teaching and/or assessment activities.
- Simulate all aspects of a scenario in a standardized accurate realistic manner including: history of current illness psychosocial profile behavioral characteristics physical attributes as trained
- Participate as the patient in physical examination by students to practice physical examination skills. This may include recalling and/or recreating the medical history, personality, emotional structure, and response pattern of an actual patient.
- Provide constructive feedback to learners following the formula provided by the Simulation Center
- Complete detailed assessment tools accurately, consistently, and as trained by the Assistant Manager, SP Program and the SP Learning and Development Trainer.
- Accept on-going feedback regarding all aspects of your patient simulation from the Assistant Manager SP Program, SP Learning and Development Trainer, and Simulation Center Director and incorporate changes as needed.
- Communicate with students in a straightforward and positive way.
- Adapt to quick changes and work in a dynamic environment.
- Maintain confidentiality with all students, cases, and training materials including assessment data.
- Wear the appropriate SP attire as required for the patient case.
- Participate in sessions/activities that will be recorded and reviewed by students, faculty, staff, fellow standardized patients, and others.

High School Diploma Skills & Experience:
- Ability to read, memorize lines and understand intent of scenarios
- Demonstrate ability and willingness to work cooperatively and professionally with learners, faculty, and administrators
- Demonstrate ability to be instructed/coached by an SP trainers
- Ability to consistently simulate a case scenario in a standardized, accurate, and reliable manner
- Ability to accurately and convincingly maintain a specified character as trained
- Ability to recall case information, as cued by students in a role-play situation
- Ability to recall and accurately score student behaviors
- Able to be flexible regarding scheduling and assignments
- Computer proficiency for communication/scheduling and data collection purposes
- Excellent communication skills
- Have bilingual skills if possible
