OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
: The Director of Operations is responsible for the day-to-day facilities management and related affairs in the areas of Operations & Systems, Event Planning, and Strategic Integration. The Director translates the Pastor's and Pastoral Council's vision into clear actionable daily work plans. The Director serves the Parish community so that the Pastor and Program Staff may concentrate on Sacramental formation, liturgy planning, preaching, teaching, providing pastoral care, and advancing the mission and ministries of the church. The Director assists in staff alignment, reduces operational silos, improves workflow, oversees the maintenance, safety, security, cleanliness, and regulatory compliance of the entire campus, including the church, parish center/preschool, rectory, and grounds. This role includes facility maintenance with supervisory responsibilities to ensure a welcoming, well-maintained environment for worship, education, parish events, and daily operations. The Director takes a proactive approach to identifying and addressing facility needs, coordinating repairs, maintaining records, and ensuring the campus remains functional, safe, and attractive at all times. The person in this role partners closely with the Business Manager and the Finance Council on budgeting, resource allocation and administrative consistency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBITIES
: Physical Plant Operations Performs routine building maintenance such as changing light bulbs, replacing filters, and minor repairs as needed, such as fixing leaky faucets and repairing and painting damaged walls and floors. Monitors and reports major maintenance or repair needs. Acts as a first responder for building and grounds emergencies (e.g., plumbing or roof leaks, power outages, inclement weather situations, security issues) and executes prompt mitigation. Ensures proper functions of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and fire/security systems. Maintains the security of church buildings and preschool. Coordinates and supervises outside contractors for non-routine maintenance and repairs outside the scope of this position, such as plumbing, electrical, and groundskeeping (lawncare and snow removal). Monitors the Parish's inventory of tools and supplies and coordinates the ordering of additional supplies as needed. Keeps accurate records of all maintenance and repairs carried out on campus, as well as reporting any incidents or accidents that occur. Ensures that all safety regulations are followed, including the annual fire inspections.as well as all necessary regulatory documents, such as permits, licenses, and insurance reports so they are up to date and in compliance with local laws and regulations. Coordinates the renovations of existing buildings. Cleanliness of Buildings and Grounds Supervises the Preschool/Church Center custodian so that the sweeping, mopping, polishing and vacuuming of floors, and the cleaning of restrooms, the Parish Center kitchen, hall, stage, offices and all common areas are ready for daily exercises. Event Preparation Supervises the custodial staff and/or volunteers in setting up and storing of tables, chairs, and other equipment for church services in the parish Center, events, and meetings. Ensures that the custodial staff maintains the Parish Center and other spaces so that they are prepared and cleaned before and after use. Supervises the preparation for special added services at Christmas, Easter, weddings, funerals and concerts. Grounds Maintenance Supervise and oversee the landscaping of the campus, including mowing the lawns, trimming hedges, removal of dead or diseased trees, and maintaining flower beds and shrubs by the outside contractors and volunteers. Ensure the excellent overall appearance of the campus. Arrange for and ensure snow removal and ice from the sidewalks, stairs, parking areas by the outside contractor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
: Director-level experience in a business or non-profit organization. Proven leadership experience and management skills. Innovative thinker who can complete tasks. Ability to stay focused and pay attention to the details each job entails. Mature judgment to work with a wide range of constituencies and the ability to make decisions while creating an environment of consensus. Bachelor's Degree in a related field and 3-10 years in Church or non-profit Administration. Respectful of the Church's religious practices.
Flexibility:
church events often occur outside of regular business hours, so flexibility in scheduling is essential. Strong knowledge of safe chemical handling and commercial cleaning equipment. The ability to use a professional, customer-service-oriented demeanor with parishioners and guests. Excellent interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills. Adhere to the
