Job Summary:
The Material Handler supports production operations throughout the York manufacturing facility by safely moving, staging, replenishing, and organizing raw materials, components, work-in-process, tooling, packaging, and supplies for multiple departments. This is a plant-floor support role focused on keeping materials available at the point of use, maintaining smooth workflow between departments, and helping prevent production delays while following all safety, quality, and housekeeping standards.
Responsibilities:
Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, carts, and other approved material-handling equipment after completing required training and certification.
Transport raw materials, components, work-in-process, tooling, packaging, and operating supplies between manufacturing departments and designated plant locations.
Stage and replenish materials at production work centers based on schedules, kanban signals, department requests, and supervisor direction.
Support departments such as machining, finishing, coating, assembly, quality, maintenance, and other production areas by providing the materials and supplies needed to maintain workflow.
Move work-in-process safely between production operations, inspection areas, rework locations, and other designated departments while protecting materials and products from damage.
Verify part numbers, quantities, labels, and destination locations before moving or delivering materials to ensure the correct items reach the correct department.
Maintain accurate identification and traceability of materials, components, and work-in-process, including required labels, tags, lot information, or movement records.
Monitor line-side and departmental material levels and communicate shortages, priority needs, misplaced materials, or potential production interruptions promptly.
Collect and return unused materials, empty containers, racks, pallets, carts, and reusable packaging to the appropriate plant locations.
Move scrap, nonconforming material, rework, and materials on hold to designated areas in accordance with quality, safety, and environmental procedures.
Assist with organizing production staging areas, point-of-use locations, supermarkets, racks, and material routes to support efficient plant flow.
Complete pre-use equipment inspections and immediately report unsafe conditions, equipment damage, product damage, spills, blocked aisles, or other concerns.
Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas through 5S practices, proper material placement, clear travel paths, and timely removal of debris and empty containers.
Follow all company safety rules, traffic patterns, PPE requirements, quality standards, environmental procedures, and established work instructions.
Coordinate with production leaders and employees across departments, support cross-training and continuous-improvement activities, and perform other plant material-support duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, pull, and move materials weighing 50+ pounds throughout the work shift a must.
At least one year of material-handling or manufacturing experience preferred; experience supporting multiple production departments is a plus.
Current forklift certification preferred; must be able to complete company-provided powered industrial truck training and demonstrate safe operation.
Basic computer, handheld scanner, labeling, and data-entry skills, as required for the assigned department or material process.
Ability to read and follow work instructions, labels, part numbers, safety rules, production documents, routing information, and material-handling procedures.
Ability to perform basic math, compare quantities, and maintain accurate records with strong attention to detail.
Ability to prioritize competing department needs, respond to changing production demands, communicate clearly, and work effectively across multiple teams.
Reliable attendance and the ability to work the assigned shift, overtime, weekends, or adjusted schedules based on business needs.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and frequently bend, reach, twist, climb, push, pull, and operate material-handling equipment.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently and move heavier materials with team assistance or mechanical equipment.
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with moving equipment, elevated noise levels, dust, fumes, and temperature variation while wearing required PPE.
