Child Care Provider - Contract Work Charleston County First Steps N Charleston, SC Job Details Contract $20 an hour 15 hours ago Benefits Flexible schedule Qualifications Caregiving Personal service experience with children Child safety supervision Performing background checks Teaching Full Job Description Charleston County First Steps Charleston County First Steps works to improve the overall well-being of young children and help ensure that children are healthy, supported, and ready for kindergarten. We partner with families and community organizations to provide programs that support parenting, early learning, child development, and family well-being. Position Type Contract / As-Needed Position Overview Charleston County First Steps is seeking one or two dependable, caring, and engaging childcare providers to provide childcare during our evening parenting classes. We offer evidence-based parenting programs to parents and caregivers of young children. Providing childcare during these classes allows parents to participate fully, focus on learning, and connect with other parents without having to worry about their children. This is an as-needed contract position. Childcare providers will be contacted when a parenting class is scheduled. We typically offer 5-6 classes per year , with each class meeting weekly for approximately 2-3 hours per evening . Classes may be held on multiple evenings during the week. Responsibilities Provide safe, attentive, and engaging care for children while their parents participate in parenting classes. Supervise children and maintain a safe, welcoming environment. Plan and provide age-appropriate activities, games, books, and other activities to keep children engaged. Support children's individual needs and respond appropriately to their behavior. Maintain a calm and positive environment that helps children feel comfortable and secure. Follow Charleston County First Steps' childcare, safety, and emergency procedures. Communicate with Charleston County First Steps staff regarding any concerns or needs involving the children. Maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of participating families. Qualifications Experience caring for or working with young children. Dependable and able to commit to scheduled class evenings. Patient, nurturing, and comfortable working with children of different ages. Ability to create a positive and engaging environment for children. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to pass any required background checks and meet applicable childcare requirements. Early childhood education, teaching, childcare, or related experience is preferred but not required. Schedule & Location Childcare is provided during evening parenting classes.
Classes typically:
Meet weekly from 5:00pm - 8:00pm Run approximately 2-3 hours per evening Are offered approximately 5-6 times per year May be scheduled on different evenings depending on the class May be held at different locations throughout Charleston County Providers will be contacted in advance when childcare support is needed and will be given the class schedule and location. Compensation $20 per hour This is a contract, as-needed position. There is no guaranteed number of hours. Providers will be contacted when childcare support is needed for scheduled parenting classes.
