What’s your build style?

Why Construction?

Five reasons it’s worth a real look.

Cal, Tallo's compass mascot, in a hard hat, flannel shirt, and overalls, holding a wrench in front of a construction site

A lot of trades start with an apprenticeship. You work, you earn a paycheck, and your training comes with the job. Most apprenticeships start at 18. If you’re younger, a pre-apprenticeship or a trades program at your school is a head start.

Crews run drones, laser scanners, and 3D models before anyone breaks ground. If you like figuring things out, there’s plenty here nobody has figured out yet.

Most jobs, you can’t show anyone what you did. This one, you can point at a building and say you were there when it went up.

Electricians earn a median $62,145 and plumbers $62,387. Run a crew later and construction managers sit at $114,156/year.

You move, and you’re outside a lot. If sitting still is the part of school you can’t stand, that’s worth paying attention to.

Four build styles, three jobs each. Click on each style to jump down to 4 different paths. Every path links to its full career page on Tallo.

This quiz measures your build style, but there’s more to that.

Build Style sorts you by how you like to work.

Do you want your hands on it, do you want to solve it, do you want to plan it, do you want to run it?

Tallo’s Career Interests Assessment results show which types of work align with your interests and strengths. These insights can help guide your course selections, internship searches, and career planning —giving you a clearer picture of paths worth exploring.

Where they split is the useful part:

  • Hands-On Builder is Realistic straight down the middle
  • Problem-Solver is Realistic with an Investigative streak, the diagnosing and figuring-out trait
  • Planner is Realistic crossed with Conventional and Investigative, the organizing and analyzing traits
  • Crew Lead is Realistic with Enterprising, the same trait you see in people who start their own companies

Two people can get the same build style and want completely different lives. That’s what the full assessment picks up and this quiz can’t.

It covers all six interest areas and opens up 1,800 careers, not twelve.
