Responsible for managingand coordinating the hospital activities of patient care andmanagement for the assigned shift by serving as administrativepersonnel in the absence of department managers, directors andadministrators. ABrief Overview Responsible for managing and coordinating thehospital activities of patient care and management for the assignedshift by serving as administrative personnel in the absence ofdepartment managers, directors and administrators. Responsible forrecognizing and assisting to solve patient care, professional,administrative, and supervisory problems. Responsible forfacilitating and coordinating quality services. Models appropriatebehavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values. What youwill do Coordinates the nursing activities on assigned shift in amanner reflective of the hospital’s philosophy and objectives.
Serves as a management/administrative liaison to hospitaldepartments and services based on established policies andprocedures. Promotes the flow of information by utilizing andmaintaining effective communication systems within the Division ofNursing, Admissions, ancillary departments, physicians andfamilies. Solves problems and troubleshoots issues that may affectthe unit or patient care ensuring timely and effective action.
Participates in quality monitoring and evaluation activities andimplements measures to ensure that hospital JCAHO and other qualitystandards are met. Assesses current areas of nursing practice andmakes recommendations as needed to Director or CNO. Providesassistance to nursing staff when needed or as emergency situationsoccur. Assesses nursing care and patient responses by unit rounds.
Provides assistance to nursing staff, giving priority to floorswith identified staffing or patient care needs. Supports Preceptorrole by serving as a mentor and providing guidance as needed duringsituations. Serves as a resource to nursing staff for new orunusual procedures. Provides technical assistance and direction fornursing staff and other disciplines. Allocates staffing resourcesbetween units based on census and patient acuity. Oversees patientplacement process assuring that patient safety and infectioncontrol standards are maintained. Responds to patient and parentcomplaints in the absence of the Patient Advocate and documentsactions taken. Education/Formal Training Requirements Bachelor’sDegree Nursing

Basic computer literacy required. Supervision Providedby this Position This is a supervisory position, leadership skillsare required. Supervisory responsibilities as assigned by the AD orCNO. Physical Demands The physical activities of this position mayinclude climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching,grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion. Must have goodbalance and coordination. The physical requirements of thisposition are: medium work
