Description Performs highly responsible, specialized and supervisory work under the direction of a department head to provide administrative support for a department; does related work as required. An employee in this class performs difficult and complicated technical work to assist an administrator. Such work often entails use of independent judgment, and may require acting as a functional supervisor or team leader to accomplish designated goals and objectives. The employee may also perform a variety of complex work assignments in connection with the programs of a department or area of assignment, often demanding application of precise technical knowledge in an area of designated responsibility. Essential Job Functions Acts as chief assistant to an administrator;
Prepares technical reports and presentations;
Performs difficult public contact work;
Prepares correspondence, memos, policy drafts, resolutions and related documents independently for a superior;
Acts as an office manager, subject to degree of authority delegated by the department head;
Supervises the daily activities of office personnel and assists in evaluation of performance;
Participates in clerical, technical and administrative tasks in order to accomplish goals and objectives of the department;
May attend official meetings in the absence of the department head. Minimum Requirements Associate’s Degree with some course work in public administration or a related area, plus considerable, progressively responsible experience in a desired area of specialization, of which at least two years shall have been in a supervisory capacity OR An equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the State of Florida. Skills Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of office management;
Good knowledge of records management;
Good knowledge of business writing;
Ability to make proper decisions in accordance with applicable laws, ordinances, rules and regulations and correctly apply departmental City policies;
Ability to maintain records and documents properly to ensure security of such material as required;
Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing;
Ability to type at a moderate rate of speed;
Physical ability to perform duties.
