Duties and Responsibilities Duties include but are not limited to: maintaining and administering files and records; answering and directing incoming calls; composing, typing and disseminating various correspondence to include letters, memorandums, etc.; researching and preparing detailed reports on special projects; assisting with maintaining master and archive files for agency written directives; drafting written policies to achieve accreditation objectives; providing assistance in coordinating accreditation work groups to achieve plans of action, recommendations or complete other accreditation goals; keeping abreast of the accreditation process, including proposed changes or amendments to the standards, transition policies, or process changes; assisting the Accreditation Manager in evaluating the impact of these changes on the agency; receiving and distributing mail; and other duties as assigned. This position performs a significant amount of independent work and requires excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills, as well as the ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Proficiency in PC applications using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and EIS is a must. Must submit completed Charleston County Employment Application to be considered for any Sheriff’s Office vacant positions.

Minimum Qualifications Minimum Education:

Position requires a high school diploma from an accredited school or GED with a minimum of 3 – 5 years of administrative assistant or general office operations experience, preferably in a law enforcement environment.

Minimum Qualification:

Must be over 18 years of age. Candidate must be a U.S. citizen; possess a current valid SC driver’s license or be able to obtain one prior to hire; and have no felony convictions. Misdemeanors will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis; Applicants, with military experience, must have received an honorable discharge. Applicants meeting these minimum requirements must submit to, and successfully complete, all phases of the hiring process to be considered for employment. The process includes but is not limited to the following: the Nelson-Denny Reading Test, a two-phase background investigation, a credit check, a psychological examination/evaluation, a polygraph examination, an oral interview, and upon an offer of employment, a pre-employment physical examination.
