The Collections Specialist I is responsible for assistingmembers in resolving outstanding debts while ensuring exceptionalmember and mission driven service. This role is responsible formitigating loss to the Credit Union by communicating with memberswith delinquent accounts and negotiating appropriate arrangementsto cure the delinquency and return the member’s account to goodstanding. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Contacts andengages with members by phone, email, and SMS texting to notify oftheir delinquent status and initiate collecting on loans, creditcards, and overdraft deposit accounts. Assists members inunderstanding their financial obligations, obtaining payments, andestablishing realistic repayment plans. Follows up when repaymentplans are not met. Documents all communication, paymentarrangements, and processes related to collections efforts in atimely and detailed manner within required databases. Makesdecisions, using ethical collection techniques and financialanalysis which mitigate Truliant’s risk of loss while preservingmember retention and promoting member loyalty. Utilizes multipleoperating systems to maintain accounts throughout the collectionsprocess. Handles high volumes of in and outbound calls andservicing requests via email to consistently meet or exceedestablished Credit Union service standards, key performancemetrics, and departmental service level agreements. Processesrecommendations for repossession to the Repossession Specialists.
Performs detailed research and compiles documentation for chargeoff disputes submitted by members and third-party collectionvendors. Monitors member accounts and identifies signs of potentialfinancial distress to identify opportunities to offer short termmodification solutions or refer for workout loan consultation.
Responds promptly to internal and external member inquiries andconcerns with professionalism and empathy. Collaborates with otherteam members and departments to resolve complex member issueseffectively, accurately, and in a timely manner. Engages in ongoingtraining and knowledge development of Truliant products, services,and collection techniques through training and self-directedlearning. Provides feedback to management regarding processimprovements and opportunities for efficiency gains. Follows creditunion policies and guidelines to ensure compliance with debtcollections laws and regulations. Other Duties and ResponsibilitiesAssists with other tasks and projects as assigned. Knowledge,Skills, and Abilities Must have a basic understanding of standardconcepts, practices, procedures, regulations and compliance withinthe collections environment Must have knowledge of collectionprocedures, bankruptcy concepts, and repossessions and recovery ispreferred Must have excellent negotiation and problem-solvingskills, with the ability to handle difficult conversations withmembers effectively. Must have excellent communication skills inEnglish, both verbal and written Must have basic personal computerskills, with knowledge of MS Office Must be able to showpersistence, determination and tact Must be able to maintainobjectivity and emotional stability under pressure Must haveability to understand all business processes within the creditunion Must be detail oriented and well organized Must be able towork in a general office environment Must be flexible and able toshift resources and priorities as required Must be able to completeall assignments with minimal supervision Should possess a strongcommitment to providing excellent service to Truliant’s membersPhysical Requirements Occasional standing, walking, bending, andstooping required Must be able to sit at a desk for long periods oftime and use a computer Must be able to moderately lift or move upto 5 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds Educationand Background High school diploma or equivalent; college educationpreferred Minimum 2 years’ experience in financial services, callcenter, or collections environment required If you have a passionfor member service and would like to invest in a meaningful careerwith opportunity for growth, we encourage you to apply to Truliant!
