Job Description
Collector I Santee Cooper Credit Union 612 Rembert C Dennis Boulevard, Moncks Corner, SC 29461 Role Responsible for the control of late and/or delinquent loan accounts, check collections and pending late payment reminders. Methods to accomplish this include (but are not limited to): phone calls, collection letters, and in person interviews. Optimize collections on accounts while balancing the goodwill of members with the overall business interests of the credit union. Duties and Responsibilities Monitor payments for late and/or delinquency status as well as help the Accounting Department with check collections as needed. Follow up on delinquent, high-balance, and overdue credit balance accounts by phone and/or letter. Contact members to discuss the circumstances of their delinquency. Discuss repayment options to resolve delinquency and collect on overdue accounts whenever possible. Update and maintain detailed collection records and prepare reports on actions taken to resolve delinquency. Maintain accurate data for repossession log, bankruptcy files, charge-off list, etc. Skip trace on loan accounts. Determine when to compromise and settle balances and when to initiate foreclosure or repossession proceedings. Coordinate with vendors for the repossession process. Responsible for the marketing and liquidation of repossessions. Work with the lending department to research and procure the proof of insurance on collateralized loans including insurance for HELOCs. Secure titles with a perfected lien in favor of SCCU within the time frame as set by management. Release titles based on procedures set in place. Contact appropriate authorities related to collections. Submit any required paperwork for requested warrants and/or judgements. Attend hearings in regard to check and/or loan collections. Adhere to Credit Union policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, Unfair, Deceptive, or Abusive Acts or Practices and the Office of Foreign Assets Control. Travel may be required. Perform other duties as requested.
Essential Knowledge/Skills Education:
A high school diploma/GED equivalent and/or additional higher education or related work experience.
Preferred Experience:
6 months to 2 years of similar or related experience, including preparatory experience.
Other Skills:
Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on your own or as part of a team. Demonstrate strong organizational skills, high level of accuracy, and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while giving attention to details. Must be able to operate a 10-key calculator, personal computer, and telephone. Proficient in the use of various internet browsers as well as the use of software such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Outlook. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Working knowledge of regulations applicable to the job function.
