We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Medical Billing Specialist to join our healthcare team. Primary responsibilities of the job include performing insurance verification, processing prior authorizations, creating medical claims and resubmitting denied claims. This role will also verify insurance benefits to ensure proper reimbursement for healthcare services. The Medical Billing Specialist role requires a strong understanding of health insurance and related regulations, and billing procedures.

Key Attributes and Responsibilities:

• Perform all billing and follow-up functions, including the investigation of payment delays resulting from pended claims, with the objective of receiving appropriate reimbursement based upon services delivered and ensuring that the claim is paid/settled in the timeliest manner possible.
• Knowledge of medical billing and collection practices, to include researching claim rejections, making corrections, taking corrective actions and/or referring claims to appropriate staff members for follow-through to ensure timely claim resolutions.
• Follow policies and procedures to contribute to the efficiency of the business office.
• Must have the ability to function independently and possess great organizational skills, utilizing tools to follow up on collections, denials and other billing issues.
• Outstanding communication skills when interacting with patients and family members, including the ability to research insurance policies and explain benefits to patients.
• Understanding of medical terminology that commonly appears on medical claims.
• Comprehension and upholding of patient confidentiality laws through HIPAA compliance.
• Ability to multi-task.
• Other duties as assigned. Qualifications
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing and collections.
• Strong understanding of insurance regulations (ICD-10, HCPCS), and billing procedures.
• Experience with Brightree preferred.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
