Position Summary:
In this role, you will be responsible for assisting in many areas of the collections, including the nurseries, orchid house, display gardens and natural areas. You will propagate plants, assist in monitoring plant health, and maintain plants by watering, weeding, grooming, fertilizing, and repotting. You will work under the direction of both the Nursery Operations Manager and Curator of Records. You will assist in plant inventories and maintenance of the database both in the nurseries and throughout the garden. To be successful, you should be organized, responsible, and have a passion for horticulture. You should be able to take direction as needed and work independently or with a team, including volunteers.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Assisting in the daily functions of the nurseries. Assisting the Curator of Records with tracking plant reception and movement. Working in IRIS BG to record and update plant status in nurseries and gardens on all plants garden wide. Maintenance duties- watering, weeding, grooming, fertilizing, repotting. Assist with inventory and nursery organization. Assist in plant propagation as needed. Assist in the use of software and apps to record plant changes both in nurseries and fields. Maintaining all nursery inventory, labeling, and IRIS BG data for all nurseries.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Previous nursery experience a plus. Excellent communication skills. Detail-oriented and attention to data accuracy. Professional and friendly demeanor. Excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for horticulture. Responsible and punctual. Ability to work a full day in outdoor conditions. Good computer skills and ability to learn accessions databases. A pre-employment background check is required.
