Coder Short Description:
Review patient bills for accuracy and completeness and obtain anymissing information. Submit technical or professional medicalclaims to insurance companies including physician offices,hospitals, nursing homes, or other health care facility. Possessstrong knowledge of insurance guidelines. Follow up on unpaidclaims within standard billing cycle timeframe. Call insurancecompanies regarding any discrepancy in payments if necessary.
Identify and bill secondary or tertiary insurances. Answer patientor insurance telephone inquiries pertaining to assignedaccounts.
Duties/Responsibilities:
? Verify accuracy of billing data and revise any errors. ? Operate typing, adding, calculating, or billing machines. ? Prepare itemized statements, bills, or invoices and recordamounts due for items purchased or services rendered. ? Review documents such as purchase orders, sales tickets, chargeslips, or hospital records to compute fees or charges due. ? Perform bookkeeping work, including posting data or keeping otherrecords concerning costs of goods or services or the shipment ofgoods. ? Keep records of invoices and support documents. ? Resolve discrepancies in accounting records. ? Type billing documents, shipping labels, credit memorandums, orcredit forms, using typewriters or computers. ? Contact customers to obtain or relay account information. ? Compute credit terms, discounts, shipment charges, or rates forgoods or services to complete billing documents. Education:
