Job Description
The Dental Billing Specialist reviews electronic dental records,computer generated reports, and other reporting tools to identifyconditions treated and the services provided to each patient. This roleis responsible for overseeing the timely and accurate coding ofdiagnoses, services and procedures performed by dentists, hygienists,and any other provider performing billable services, and supplies usedutilizing the appropriate coding system. Excellent customer service andcommunication skills are required for this position. Spanish bilingualis a plus. This position also monitors and resolves all agedreceivables. Dental Billing Specialist Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Reviews EDR billing system, computer generated reports and otherreporting tools to identify all services and procedures performed byproviders, and any other provider performing billable services.
- Reviews encounter forms to ensure appropriate diagnosis codes selectingthe codes that accurately describe the condition for which the serviceor procedure was performed.
- Prepares accurate claims for timelysubmission to the appropriate third party payers.
- Posts third partypayments received to appropriate patient accounts, files Explanation ofBenefits (EOB) according to clinic procedure.
- Works cooperatively withthird party payers to reconcile payments in a timely manner.
- Ensuresthat dental staff complies with various third party rules andregulations.
- Analyzes and investigates all third party claims thatbecome 60 days past due to determine cause. Distributes overdue/deniedclaims and reports to dental, fiscal and administrative leadership.
- Collaborates with practice mangers to monitor, review and track allcorrespondence from insurers regarding claims.
- Investigates all deniedclaims, corrects any coding errors and resubmits the claims forpayment.
- Assists with provider billing and documentation training asneeded.
- Maintains all payer training manuals; notifies dental staff ofany change in any insurer’s rules and regulations.
- With the billingteam follows and reports status of delinquent accounts and works tocollect aged balances.
- With the billing team evaluate patientfinancial status and establish payment plans as instructed.
- Appliespayments accounts received through bank deposits and insurancecarriers.
- Prepares and mails statements to patients with unpaidbalances.
- Answers patient questions, identifies and resolves patientbilling complaints.

- To perform the job successfully,an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:
- Punctualand reliable; ability to maintain schedule commitments.
- Spanishspeaking/bilingual is a plus.
- Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomyand physiology; knowledge of CDT and modifier usage; knowledge of thirdparty payer reimbursement policies and procedures; knowledge of codingand billing programs and ability to use coding and claims software;knowledge of Electronic Dental Record system preferred.

EssentialSkills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Oneyear coding and billing experience in a dental office.
