Bachelor’s degree CPT coding Epic Associate’s degree Communication skills Full Job Description Scope of Responsibilities Utilize medical computer software programs to abstract, analyze and/or evaluate clinical documentation and enter/edit diagnosis and procedure codes. Coordinates with staff to get charge information for all patients in an EMR environment. Verifies and completes charge information in database and produces billing. Gathers and verifies all information required to produce a clean claim, including special billing procedures that may be defined by a payer or contract. Monitor and follow up on unpaid claims, denials, and rejections. File corrected claims, appeals and reconsideration requests as needed. Work collaboratively with front office and clinical staff to improve revenue cycle efficiency. Follow-up on outstanding AR balances using aging reports and worklists. Maintain knowledge of payer policies and denial trends to proactively reduce issues. Assist patients, employers, insurance providers and team members with understanding bills and resolving billing issues. Other duties as assigned. Competencies Superior verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to negotiate effectively Strong attention to detail, goal oriented, and has the ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities. Must be a team player. Minimum Qualifications Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business, or related field 3+ years of experience in medical billing, coding, or revenue cycle operations Familiarity with insurance payers, EOBs, and electronic health records (EHR) systems Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding; certification in medical coding preferred Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, follow-up and organizational skills Excellent communication (written and verbal) and customer service skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office and billing software (e.g., Athena, Epic, Cerner)
