Full Job Description Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Coder to join our surgical services team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately coding surgical procedures and related services, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines, and collaborating closely with physicians and administrative staff to support efficient billing and reimbursement processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Review provider schedules and electronic health records (EHR) to accurately code surgeries and procedures. Evaluate encounter forms and clinical documentation to ensure appropriate CPT and ICD-10 coding; apply necessary modifiers. Enter coding information into the billing system with accuracy and attention to detail. Run and analyze weekly reports to identify missing charges; follow up with providers and site managers to gather necessary information. Collaborate with Accounts Receivable to resolve coding discrepancies and update codes in the EHR as needed. Collect, audit, and verify encounter forms to ensure accurate charge entry. Partner with medical staff to resolve coding and billing issues effectively. Conduct patient chart audits to ensure complete and accurate billing. Assist Surgery Schedulers and Insurance Representatives with CPT code selection. Stay current with coding standards and participate in continuing education activities. Maintain certification through required continuing medical education (CME) credits. Uphold strict confidentiality in all patient and organizational matters. Exhibit flexibility in supporting both strategic and operational needs, always modeling excellent customer service to patients, clients, and colleagues. Comply with all company policies, OSHA regulations, and HIPAA standards. Perform additional duties as assigned by physicians or management.
