Not a remote position. This is an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) Surgical Coding/Billing position with a focus on Ophthalmology and ENT. The ideal candidate has a strong background in medical coding & billing with AAPC certification (CPC, COC, CPC-A, or equivalent) and a specific understanding of ophthalmology-related procedures, modifiers, payer policies, and coding guidelines. In addition to surgical coding and billing, we are also looking for this individual to assist in the pre-surgical patient estimation process. Health insurance verification and benefit experience is a must. Under indirect supervision, the coder is responsible for the accurate coding of Ophthalmology and ENT surgical procedures and diagnoses. Classification systems include ICD-10-CM, CPT, Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS), and other facility reimbursement guidelines. Candidate will also be responsible for accurate benefit verification and patient estimate creation, along with other duties as assigned.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Must be a strong Ophthalmology & ENT surgical coder. Apply appropriate coding (CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS) for ophthalmology & ENT minor and major surgical procedures (e.g., cataract surgery, laser procedures). Must possess a thorough knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT, Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) coding principles, and third-party requirements regarding documentation and billing. Submit accurate and timely claims to Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers via electronic and paper submission. When services/diagnoses are not documented appropriately, seek to attain proper documentation in a timely manner according to facility standards. The coder is responsible for coding or pending every chart placed in their charge entry tracker. Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations, CMS guidelines, and payer-specific billing requirements. Keep current with coding changes, payer updates, and billing best practices. Must maintain current certification credentials. Must possess a thorough knowledge of health insurance verification and benefits.
REQUIREMENTS
AAPC Certification (CPC, CPC-A, COC or equivalent) required. Minimum 2 years of coding & billing experience, with at least 1 year in ophthalmology and/or ENT coding & billing. Proficient in coding, terminology, and services Familiarity with common ophthalmic procedures (e.g., cataract surgery, YAG laser, intravitreal injections). Strong understanding of insurance guidelines Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Basic knowledge of ASC (Ambulatory Surgery Center) billing for ophthalmology & ENT procedures. 2. Understanding of global periods, surgical packages, and bundled services.
